Camcorders - Where to get the best deal

    Hi All,

I am currently looking at buying a Camcorder and I am looking at the CANON HG10 High Definition Camcorder.

On the high street it is very expensive on Dabs.ie it is €840. However in the US it is only $700.

Can anyone tell me is it OK to buy a US version - Will there be compatability problems?

Can anybody recommend a reputable US website that I can buy from and ships internationally?

I really appreciate your help and advice
    Thanks
    Davin

Yeah, buying an NTSC version is fine. I've just been over in NYC last week with my friend and he bought the HG10, while I got a Sony HDR-SR7. Check them online here - http://www.bhphotovideo.com/

The issue with NTSC is that it uses a different resolution than PAL. However, these cameras record in High Definition too, so if you are recording in that mode there is no difference between NTSC/PAL.

Also, I've never known a modern TV (LCD or Plasma) that didn't support both modes. Ditto for any DVD players. Don't confuse colour schemes with Region encoding. They are not the same thing at all.

The only time it will make any difference to you, will be if you want to export your high definition recordings to a standard DVD, or record in standard definition for a DVD, but as I've already mentioned most if not all players and modern TVs will support both formats.

For older sets you'd need to check that they can support it.

If you are connecting to a high def TV, make sure you pick up a HDMI to HDMI-Mini cable as the camera only has the new HDMI Mini slot.

The link above stocks both NTSC or PAL cameras, just search using the model number for the pal region, it will be slightly different. An advantage that you might have with a PAL model will be if you go to resell it later.

Enjoy! The canon is a Great camera.
