Maybe it would be an idea for people to post places they know in their locality, where people could meet up without drink. Nice cafes, late night restaurants etc.

(There used to be a late night coffee place near me, that was pretty lively at the weekends. It started out as a meeting point for some people before they went out, then it started to develop a life of its own.
It was easier to be yourself there because nobody was drinking so everyone was there to hang out and chat.
The problem was after a few weeks a lot of people started coming in there after pubs closed (some were sneaking in drink, some were just pissed and couldnt get into nightclubs), anyway within no time the place was unmanageable and they stopped opening late.
It was a f***ing shame, because it made a nice change of pace on a friday night, the music was always good, and a nice mix of people with no aggro.)

I'm sure though that there must be still some places out there that are worth a visit

Seriously in Ireland, are coffee shops like the ones in the movies? You know, poets, cats on tables, and Buerets(?)

Cafe Mocha near Stephens Green Shopping Centre in Dublin is a late opening cafe with a nice friendly vibe. It is a bit expensive though and usually quite packed. Sadly, they don't let people have events there anymore as the third floor is now used for storage (I asked about this recently). Pity that cos it was a really nice venue with a stage and all that.

Starbucks Dame Street Dublin is ok but it's always impossible to get a seat. When you finally do, it's hard to stay because you just end up feelin sorry for the person standing beside you who's been eyein' up your seat for the last 15minutes!

    Anyone know anywhere else?

Mode cafe in Rathmines (next to Toast) apparantly stays open into the early hours.

The beauty of playing poker in the casino is the social aspect and the free drinks(ie - coffee, tea, soft drinks, cappacinos etc!). I've been playing a good while though so I generally leave with some kind of profit which is a plus!
