rough mspaint sketch of the divider between the downstairs and upstairs

    where does the insulation go?
obviously you rest it on the celing and stop the heat leaving the rooms downstairs?
but do you not insulate under (or over) the the upstairs floor too?

because the area with the trusses is ventilated at the sofet and facia, so there will be constant fresh air in there and hence under your feet when your upstairs

I'll try and get a link posted for that detail if i can find one. I assume its a dormer type house. You can run the insulation between the ceiling/floor joists but this meets/laps the insulation to the studding upstairs and effectively seals the the developed part of the attic area from the airflow you need to maintain.

You could of course insulate between all the floor joists also if you wish.
