    Hiya everyone,

I will be backpacking across Croatia and Slovenia in July 08. How much are average goods? Fruit, milk, bread etc. Any other tips about the countries? What are the people like? etc.

    Thanks in advance.

In general cheaper than here but not what you would call dirt cheap

People are sound in general, Croatians are a bit mad, make sire you let them know you're Irish and not English

Visit the islands in Croatia and Lake Bled in Slovenia

Yeah, completely agress with what's been said. Croatia is pretty crazy, especially since there aren't really hostels there so you come out of the train station late at night and have to go stay in some lady's house! Zagreb is city-ish and without any real sights I thought, but yeah Hvar, Korcula islands are beautiful, and of course Split & Dubrovnik. They are more expensive than neighbouring countries though. Slovenia is lovely too, Lake Bled is great & you can go lots of adventure sports there. People are really friednly in both countries, it's not long since they've had significant political difficulties & of course the civil war itself in Croatia but they are very optimistic and open to new things, especially the younger generations - up for a laugh and all that! And DEFINITELY get an Irish patch for your rucksack or something, they love us over there and fequently they us sympathise with us over similar 'strong Catholic faith' and the 'fighting/gunfire amongst former friends and families' and we were like em, think ye've had it lot tougher than us!
