    Hi all,

Just wondering where everyone gets their spare batteries here? I always seem to end up paying more than I should for mine. Just wondering what everyone else does.

    Cheers

What with this being the photography forum and all, I think it's safe to assume that 440Hz is talking about SLR camera batteries.
    Maybe I'm mistaken.

    ah, it's OK.

my assumption was from the OP it was suggested that 440Hz had bought batteries in the past, making me think more consumer type rather than camera (SLR type) batteries.
I always seem to end up paying more than I should for mine.

In the past I've gotten my spare SLR batteries from HK via ebay. I'd say BnH or adorama would be cheaper these days. I'd even say you'd get the in tax free....(maybe)

svp.co.uk - no not St Vincent De Paul!!

I get all my batteries here both alkaline and rechargeable. Ultra cheap. Cheap for memory cards too, in fact cheap for everything. Typically I would be buying blank media or other bits in parallel with my batteries...otherwise the chipping cost would outweigh the advantage.

    Good point.

At the time, my Canon DSLR battery would have cost circa €70 to buy a spare. Instead I went for a generic brand online from the US at $11 per battery so I bought 2 of them including a free spare charger. Because of the low value there was no Customs Tax.

And you know what? The generic ones last longer than the Canon.....go figure.

IMO its one thing purchasing reputable, in some cases better performing 3rd party lenses but sticking in some 'Joe Bloggs brand' ultra powerful battery into my expensive DSLR scares me a little....that thing leaks or explodes and you have an expensive problem to fix for the sake of saving 20 euros. If you buy the branded product from the likes of Albert they are a decent enough price and not fakes. (FYI you wont pay tax on the batteries due to low value - I did it recently)

p.s. hope you dont experience the leaks or explosions mentioned!

Well for 2 batteries it was a savings of €120 (versus genuine Canon) so not to be sneezed at. I've been using those generic (& better performing batteries) now for at least 3 years and they are as good as the day I bought them. No complaints there. I'm not bothered by brand names in batteries, as they are almost "consumable". However I'm a stickler for Canon-only brands on everything else.....and have become a bit of an L snob in recent years. My pocket knows all about that!

I once long ago got some EN-EL3 for a D70 from US through eBay
got 5 of them at 2 dollars each
they end up lasting longer than the official one
two friends of mine have one each of them (lost count of the rest) and after over 3 years they're still going strong at about 1000 shots per charge on a d70

but I agree that if you can afford them go for originals

Just went with Alby in the end, easier than paying a second lot of shipping when was ordering anyway. Thanks for the helpful replies, will bookmark ideas for next time.

ps: sorry eas, didn't mean to land you in it, my bad for not stating SLR.
