Just in the process of building a Media Centre PC.
I have all the hardware case cpu memory etc.
I will be mainly using it to record from my Sky Box.
I have yet to get a TV Card.
Is there a TV card that I can install that will give me decent picture quality or do I need to get a RGB to S-Video Converter anyway?

if the sky box has s-video out you can just use that directly.
other than that, you dont "need" to use anyhtinh other than composite.
set it up with s-vid if you can, that will be as good as you get.
if you cant do that, set it up with composite.
if yoou find that unsatisfactroy you can always upgrade to the rgb - s-vid converter.

i have ntl digital through mce onto a 1920x1080 37" lcd and find the picture perfectly fine using composite connection to the mce

Thanks Subway for replying to my question.
My Sky box has a S-video output so happy days.
    Thanks again

Just to note that for Win XP MCE or Vista MCE to record TV using the EPG in media center , that the card must be MCE certified , there is a list somewhere of the cards that work , but cant find it at the moment , this one definitely works , have it myself ,

Im posting this just in case you have a Vivo graphics card and were hoping to use that , in most cases , while such cards will capture video with its own software , they wont work with MCEs tv recording capabilities.

    Thanks Mathias

I will be using a Gainward Geforce 7600 GS 512mb in the unit so hopefully I will be OK.
As regard to the TV tuner I was thinking of getting one of these
