Can anyone tell me how - if any way - to turn off iTunes automatically starting up when I put my iPhone into it's cradle?

it can get a tad annoying, if i only want to charge the iPhone.

not entirely sure, simply because i haven't tried it with mine, but in the syncing tab in iTunes' preferences there is an option to disable automatic syncing for all iPhones and iPods.

    This might do the trick!

"Open iTunes when iPhone is connected" in the Summary tab?

You thinking of going for an iPhone now Mike? Thought you were sticking to the BB last chat. I can't keep up with ya at all. ;) Mac-mad you'll be now with your new toy on the way. See more of you in here hopefully!

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but how do you get around the 2 year Cingular contract?

quite simple, they allow you to buy the phone and then later register and sign up for the contract through itunes.

if you do the process of jailbreaking (same process as on the ipod touch) your phone doesn't need to be activated, and can be used like a iphone sans phone part until you unlock it, using either the program anysim (if you have firmware 1.1.1 or eariler) or a simcard solution if you have 1.1.2 or higher.

Thanks for that. It wass bugging me for ages. Surprised they made it so simple to get around it.

oh its not!!! buy one now and you're truly ****ed!

1.1.3 has broken even the TurboSim solution.

It looks like this is one instance where it pays to be an early adopter

stealth sim will still work according to PowerHouseDan over here http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055113165

but it may be some time before jailbreak 1.1.3 is released to the public.
