I wouldn't touch the marshall dfx, i'e heard nothing but bad things about them. the vox on the other hand is supposed to be great.

I have an MG50DFX, counting down the days until i get rid of it, one of my mates has an MG30DFX, he replaced it last week. They are terrible amps, they just kept breaking! the effects and the volume kept cutting out.
one of my other mates has a fruntman, great amp. id definatly go with the fender

Avoid the Marshall like the plague!

Seriously, for that price, you'd be much better off getting something like a Line6 Spider, Roland Cube, or Vox AD. Also, you're looking for a practice amp, it doesn't need to be 30 watts or upwards, I've got a Roland Microcube, which is a mere 2 watts, and it does me fine.

Yeah I've an MG15DFX - I've had no problems (although I don't use any of the awful FXs on it). But definitely if I was in the market again it would be looking at either a microcube or VOX DA5.

If you're near Dublin I'd take a butcher's in Musician Inc. They aren't exactly Thomann prices but you'll get a decent practice amp in there at a decent price.

I got a Hartke b150 in there for about 150 with leads thrown in.

For a guitar player though, I've heard nothing but praise for the microcube, and Thomann are basically giving them away at 99 bills.

Do NOT get the mg30dfx. It can just about do one type of bluesy sound, and that's it. I had one and was really disappointed with it. It sounds muddy and weak.

Try a Vox Valvetronix AD15 - it's MUCH better. You could even go for a Roland microcube.... You'll never really need more than 5 watts RMS at home anyway.

i have a vox ad50vt for sale on the for sale thread,as the name suggests its 50 watts but that can be controled from 0 to 50watts and anything inbetween.it has 11 amp models and all the effects.very versatile amp(i am moving to london in a week so i need to get rid of.go to utube and type in the name of the amp and you can hear plenty of demos of it.(its six months old)

practice amps to buy: rolan cube or valvetronix series

the two you linked to are both dreadful.

If you're willing to dabble in a bit of electronics I'd say you won't get better bang for your buck than one of these http://www.thomann.de/ie/harley_benton_ga5.htm. It's a single-ended 5 watter with an EL84 power stage and 12AX7 preamp stage. The are some simple mod kits out there to help you get a richer tone but even out of the box you get a sweet "Class A" type tone even if a little "boxy", kinda like a mini Vox AC30 except it is actually single-ended. Some of the mod kits help you get a more "British" blues-breaker sound and there is even one to get the Van Halen "brown sound". At €100 it's a steal. I reckon tonight everyone should forget their few cans in the house, taxi into town, overpriced pints, entrance to some s****y nightclub, kebab and taxi home and get one of these instead!!
