Yes folks, Downtownsounds is back with a bang this month with the notorious El Diablo’s Social Club from the Republik of Mancunia set to lash the Ri-Ra basement out of it next Friday 25th, which is always a proper madouva session after the wrist-slash of January…….

There’s also details of the launch of our new monthly, ‘remake:remodel’ in the ever so swish Button Factory, with NYC’s Metro Area flying in for the opening night….

    EL DIABLO’S SOCIAL CLUB, MANCHESTER – Fri January 25th @ Ri-Ra

    Ri-Ra, Dame Court, Dublin 2
    Doors 11.30pm.10€ admission
DTS residents in The Globe from 8pm

While Downtownsounds loves to bring the big names to the Ri-Ra basement, we also like to shine a light on some of the lesser known lights in the DJ world. Danny Webb and Neil Scott are two such characters. They’ve been running El Diablo’s Social Club in their hometown of Manchester for the last 4 years, bringing great DJ’s like DTS favourites Maurice Fulton, Rub’n’Tug and Todd Terje to the rainy city, as well as running spectacular one-offs in brothels, abandoned warehouses and other houses of ill repute!

Both of the lads work in Manchester’s renowned Piccadilly Records, so undoubtedly have access to the most upfront dancefloor tunes the modern music world has to offer. They’ve both played at The Electric Chair, the legendary Mancunian monthly hoe-down famed for it’s eclectic music policy and unmatched atmosphere, as well as other Northern institutions like Leeds’ Back To Basics. And both have other residencies at well-loved Mancunian clubnights like Black Heart Disco and Nish Nash Nosh.

When we had them over to play at 52FUNK in Kennedy’s last May, they knocked out a fabulous set of cosmic dancefloor bombs, from disco and funk to firing house and techno.

We’ll be continuing our recent policy of warming things up in The Globe from 8pm or so, so pop in and have a little tipple to get yourselves warmed up for the main event.

    DOWNTOWNSOUNDS PRESENTS…..

    remake:remodel

A BRAND NEW MONTHLY PARTY AT BUTTON FACTORY
    3rd Friday Of Every Month

Launching Friday 15th February with very special guests METRO AREA
Button Factory (formerly Temple Bar Music Centre), Curved St, Dublin 2.
Doors 11pm.Tickets 15€ from Big Brother and City Discs.

remake:remodel is our new venture at Button Factory, a venue that bears little relation to it’s badly designed ancestor, The Temple Bar Music Centre. It’s now open plan, with some lush carpets and furniture and much improved sound. The place is perfect both for live acts and DJ’s, and this is what attracted us most to the place.
We’ll be flying in Metro Area from New York City for a rare 3 hour set to mark the launch night.
Between 1998 and 2001, Metro Area (aka Morgan Geist and Darshan Jesrani) won underground acclaim for their series of four self-titled EP’S which wove together their myriad influences –Detroit techno, Chicago jack-trax, italo-disco, early 80’s electro-boogie, Eno ambience and New Jersey warmth – into a compelling new musical whole. An eponymous album was culled from the EP’s in 2002, and they haven’t looked back since, smashing it around the globe with their unique remixes and DJ sets, as well as three more 12” chapters in the MA story.
Their Environ label continues to showcase the very best in electronic disco, with Morgan Geist producing the superb symphonic electropop of The Kelley Polar Quartet and Baby Oliver supplying their ‘PrimeTime (Uptown Express)’ track for LCD Soundsystem’s recent ‘FabricLive’ mix CD. Geist has also released his fabled ‘Unclassics’ mix, an awesome collection of obscure European electro-funk and disco bombs.

Their rare sets together are a perfect blend of sexy deep house and techno as well as supercharged disco, electroboogie and italo, as the Electric Picnic found out when they rocked the Bodytonic Tent in September 2006. Dublin punters got a taste of what they can do when they rocked The POD as part of the Bacardi B-Live series last March.
We couldn’t think of a better way to make our mark in our new venue than with these boys doing an extended set……
To get a taste of what we’re waffling on about, here’s a mix to sample:

Live Special with Black Devil Disco Club and Mano Le Tough, 52FUNK vs Space Camp, a true NY disco warrior, and much more besides…
