I'm running a small cash game in a couple of weeks. €45 minimum buyin with €1/€2 blinds.

What is the usual rake taken in this game?

Seems like a very small game. Are you running it in a card club or as a home game. For a home game you obviously should charge a rake, in a card club, it really depends on your running expenses. Rake varies from club to club here from 5-8 euro per player per half hour.

Yeah its just a side game to a freezeout in a club. I thought the rake was taken per pot tho rather than by the hour? We'll have the dealer to pay and any profit made will go to the club. Not looking to clean up but of course not looking to lose money.

in the local 1/2 game i play in they take €1 from every €11 capped at a fiver which is pretty fair for a non casino game. that should let you cover all your costs and still make a few quid

For casino's I would expect a maximum charge of +5% (e.g. 1 euro per 20 or part thereof) with a maximum cap of 5 BBs (so 10 euro for a 1/2 game). In the States they mostly charge =10% (e.g. 1 dollar per 10 exact) with a cap of 4 dollar (indifferent to the blinds). I love the system in England where they simply charge each player per hour. It works out much better (read: cheaper) for the players, even for rock players like me. Last time I played it was 6 pound per player per hour which works out as about 3 BBs per pot*. I hate the Australian system where each player is charged a dollar per hand, like a running ante. Its stupid IMHO, not to mention very expensive.

For home games I would expect the rake to be much lower, either in percentage or capping. If its self-deal then I would expect no rake at all or simply a rake of 1 euro per pot*.

*) No flop; no drop! Per-pot rake is only charged if the hand gets to the flop or beyond.

Lukes is 34euro per half hour for a 9handed game - 3.80 per player per half hour
Self deal 25max game is 1.50per player per half hour.

A time charge is a bit of a legal loophole as taking a % is definitely not legal.

How exactly does it work in practice charging players per 1/2 hour or hour? With players leaving table and new players joining all the time how would one keep track of who owes what? Apologies if this sound slike a stupid question:o

We rake the game as usual and the time charge is collected from the dealer on the half hour.
