"Junior Witter Looks To Boost His Profile With Title Defense In The US

16.01.08 - Matthew Hurley: WBC junior welterweight champion Junior Witter, 36-1-2 with 21 KOs, who has been clamoring for a showdown with Ricky Hatton, is now tentatively scheduled to take on Demetrius Hopkins, 28-0-1 with 11 KOs on March 22nd at a site yet to be determined in the United States. An impressive victory will put further pressure on both Hatton and IBF belt holder Paulie Malignaggi to engage the Bradford fighter in the ring to determine supremacy in the junior welterweight division..

Witter understands his position and is determined to give a good showing against Hopkins to boost his profile, particularly in the United States.

“I’m going to deliver in America,” he told the Bradford Telegraph. “I’m not just going to kick the door wide open but rip it off its hinges. Hopkins is good but he’s not met anyone like me. It may be in his own back yard but it’s just him and me in a square ring when that first bell sounds. I’m not interested in winning on points. I’m going to knock him out.”

Witter went on to add that Hopkins, despite his pedigree (Demetrius is the nephew of Bernard Hopkins), is not in his league when it comes to technique and ring experience.

“He is taller and has a good reach but why should that bother me? Vivian Harris was about six foot as well with a very similar style, and look what happened to him.”

Witter knocked Harris out in the seventh round back in September.

“He’s got a good reputation in America but I’m going to win in style and put the pressure on everyone out there like Hatton and Paulie Malignaggi.”

The fight will be televised on HBO."

I really hope he does the business - he really let himself down on the Tyson undercard and that is stink is still following him, especially in the US. He deserves a pop at Paulie and if he beats Paulie then Hatton cant ignore him.

I think he KO's Hopkins and Paulie - and Hatton too!!! - am I crazy?

D-Hop isn't up to much(should have a lose to Steve Forbes on his record) and this is the perfect fight for Witter to gain recognition in the States .

    Witter by Tko .

hopefully after this and after hatton has a confidence booster these two will get it on ,witter isn't very popular but he's a good fighter nonetheless, his traner coming out and saying he'd beat mayweather witter saying it would be 60/40 and he'd knock him out was a bit laughable tbh:D
