    Hi,

Just interested to see what formation you tend to play with most and more importantly what team you play with and how successful are you with that team and formation ?

Basically struggling with deciding on which formation to play with, sometimes i go with one upfront and other times two,so just interested to see any formations that are working for others.

    Cheers

Back 4, with the fbs' told to stay back.

Two DM's one pushing on 1 unit up( with a normal attitude)

3 AM, going left, Right and Centre. with 1 Striker holding up (Marlon Harewood)

The Centre AM is a free role, creative, no closing down.

Playing thru the middle, with short passing, slightly higher than normal tempo.

Counter Attack, no Target man or Playmaker.

Corners Near post, with 2 CB and DM attacking Near post, Striker on Keeper, My Left Full (6'4") on Near post flicks.

Hola LFC5Times, here's what i've been experimenting with lately - a 3 man defence setup aided by Wingbacks:

    tacticwblr8.jpg

The CBs and DMC tend to dominate my own area when defending crosses. I love the security of a thrid CB right at the back post. The Wingbacks run all day up and down the line, so high stamina and natural fitness is a must.

Attacking-wise, I employ a specialist playmaker in AMC, partnered by a Runner. The Forwards are your typical little n' large combination so as to add variety to the attack. I use a short passing, slow tempo game and like to mix the passing into all areas of the pitch.

As you can see, I love Barrows :) Without the Ball, my team just floods back and successfully soaks up the pressure (for the most part). It's nearly a fifferent formation when defending.

Results-wise, in a 2nd season with ManCity. Predicted to finish 8th, but currently riding high in 4th.

Not a wonder tactic but definitely enjoying Football Manager 2008 now because of it.

Are your DM - behind the halfway line? ie. in front of the back 4 ? and are your 3 AM in front of the halfway line ie. behind the striker ?

Or are either the DM or AM based on the halfway line ?

Also what team are you and how are you fairing overall ?

I play with Barnet and have been playing a 4 1 3 1 1 formation for the past 4 seasons. I've got promoted from League 2 and League 1 and am currently in the Championship. Its been a pretty decent formation results wise so far but goals tend to be thin on the ground and i've won an awful lot of games 1-0. You need a decent DM and a very good AMC for this to work well.

In the Championship its not really producing the goods at the moment and i'll probably have to abandon it soon.

do you play with wide men in the midfield or narrow? i messed around with that but couldn't settle with it so went back to 4-4-2.

Play it narrow. Haven't had a winger in 8 years as Barnet boss! Usually have a dedicated MC in the centre of the trio, someone who has at least 15 for Passing and Creativity. Then I have a AMR and an AML to the right and left of him.

Playing with the bould Bognor Regis Town in the Blue Square South. All players at this level are pretty crap, so I'm playing the classic "Christmas Tree" 4-3-2-1. Interestingly, this isn't available as a default tactic. So far so good, I'm in 4th place after 19 games. The logic behind this is that player in the BSS are so bad at passing, it keeps them all in the centre of the field, making it easier to retain possession. I only have one decent striker, but a good number of midfielders (including two on loan from my parent club), so it makes sense from a personnel side of things too. With a good FC and two good AMCs its a formation that could go far.

with Arsenal 4-4-2 with the 2 wingers arrows going as far forwards at they can. Then I get my centre mids kicking lumps and one of them set not to go forward too much. Full backs attack as normal, centre halves stay put. Play direct, lots of closing down, tackling hard.

with Newcastle: 4-5-1/4-3-3, the way United play basically, 2 wing forwards and a CF. I have the 2 central midfielder with their arrows all the way forward, keep the DM pretty defensive allow the full backs attack, centre halves play defensive. Closing down alot, tackling meduim, passing shortish, play just touch above meduim for directness.

In both games I play a high line defensively and use the offside trap, which is a complete contrast to how I played in 07 and took me a while to switch to in 08 but i find it alot more effective. In both I use a target man.

I started a game unemployed and am currently in charge of Rotherham (and Jamaica).

I possibly have the best squad in League 1 but I'm very inconsistent. I'm now playing a normal 4-4-2. Anyone got help for me? Maybe mail me on a decent tactic?

I'm playing with Halifax in the Blue Square Premier,as elurhs said the standard is pretty bad so I think the best is to have good players in the centre of the park.I switch between 4-4-2 and 4-5-1.$-4-2 I play just flat but with my AMC and DMC but just lined up on the halfway. With 4-5-1 I got Dalla Valle(legend!!!) playing just behind the striker and a DMC sitting just infron of the back 4.

    4321

3 dmc [2 amc + 1 dmc] playing right in front of the back 4.

2 amc [or strikers depending on whos available] playing right behind the lone striker.

    York in the bottom division.

Changed to a 41221/4123/41212 if needed.

I've Dalla Valle on the bench.

Always check the Brazilian clubs for new youth players that are EU national. The beauty is, they get an extrayear or two training in Brazil before they move so you get a good youngster ready for the first team for the price of a 15 year old.

Mate of mine got an unbelievable 'keeper for Chester. Liverpool came with £3mil, board accepted and now he's worth £22mil! He's got tonnes of 20s.

I've been using a 4-1-2-2-1 with St. Pauli in the German second division (I always start unemployed, hence the odd team :o).
    st
    lw
    rw
    mc----mc

    dm
    lb----dc----dc----rb

Both wingers make runs in to box, Team instructions are normal except for attacking, width and closing down which are all at about 7 on a scale of 1-10.

St. Pauli were just promoted the first seaon and expected to struggle when i got the job. First season i switched to this formation after about 6 or 7 bad games and after a few wins was midtable all season.
In a second season now, top of the division and about 8 pts to spare over 4th for the promotion places.

Found this formation on fmformation. flat back four and the full back are arrowed back, a dm arrowed to midfield, right an left mid arrowed into the att mid centre, an att mid centre and 2 up front. tweak the tactics to suit but have target man set to ball to feet, play offside and your dm a playmaker.....jean il makoun is perfect for the position.

i've played the formation wit newcaslte, lost the first 5 games of the season, changed formation and then won the league!
