it will be on repeat this saturday if you missed it

    it was bad ass

    Wednesday 16 January
The third programme in the series takes a special look at Climate Change in Ireland.
    http://www.rte.ie/tv/ecoeye/eco3.html
"This programme grapples with the stark issues surrounding climate change today. Where do we go from here? What are the implications of Climate Change in an Irish context? What is the Carbon Footprint of the average Irish family? Can our young, robust economy sustain the potentially harrowing economic effects of Climate Change?

In this programme Duncan examines our mitigation strategy and what we need to do to achieve this ambitious target. "

didn't see it, But I presume it was the usual show full of tales of bureaucracy holding back practical solutions, false promises from politicians and lots of tut-tut-ing from the man in the hat ?

Seemed poorly researched they were talking about new VRT rates on cars saying a low polluting car would pay no VRT and a big polluting car would pay alot. There's no plans to introduce zero VRT on any low polluting cars.

TBH I think that whole show is a token "look over there" from the CIF

I'd hardly call it bad ass.

Duncan has his heart in the right place but his programme usually ends up a bit wishy washy...and your woman from the ESRI made me cringe.

There are one or two more outspoken people he could've had on the programme who have better ideas and are actually doing stuff.

Electric cars and bikes are exempt from VRT since 1.1.2008.

I thought the programme was quite good, and Irish TV programme producers could make lots of more programmes like this on green issues generally, to wake up the population generally.

Ireland produces 70 million tonnes of CO2. Switzerland produces only 24 million tonnes by comparison, if the population was "pro-rata'd".

People need education in this area, and TV is one of the best ways of achieving same, particularly with the non schoolgoing population who are responsible for most of the mess!
