Question on Time Machine

Here's one for you. Does Time Machine support the use of an external HDD as the backup source ? If so, does it support two drives, one internal and one external, as the source ?

Reason I ask - my setup is a Mac Mini with an external drive that I use to store my photos on. I also have another external drive which I use to backup to - I do this manually from the internal hdd and external one every now and then. Obvisouly, using time machine to backup both internal hd and external hd1 to external hd2 would be preferable.

Also, if this turns out to be possible, I'll seriously consider getting the new time capsule.

Can anyone confirm for sure ?

Yeah, Time Machine will backup external disks as long as they aren't the destination Time Machine backup drive.

However, by default external drives are put on the Time Machine exclude list in System Preferences. You'll need to remove it from the list for it to work.

Very very good question m_stan. I am glad you asked that question. Thanks fasty.

Now this changes my whole feeling about time capsule. Although i can't see myself buying it just yet because i do not need it right now, not for another year i guess, but this is interesting and worth bearing in mind.
