yeah but can I do anything in Galway colleges?
I was thinking marine biology or something to do with bar management.

Something Ill benefit from now, as I've done a music course and I've nowhere
to go from it and I need to do something worthwhile!

Goto a PLC. Some have "unofficial links" with colleges. I went from a PLC course to a course that needed between 1.5 and 2 times the amount of points that I got.

And even if you don't want to go into college, PLC's are still very good. They also do some courses that some college's don't seem to do, such as outdoor adventure stuff.

I'm not too aware of colleges in Galway apart from GMIT and NUIG

I remember my ex looking for courses in GMIT though. There was some courses he thought looked good but in the end came up here to Dublin.

Are there any of the PLC colleges down there?

Do GMIT have an open day soon?

It says on the prospectus for Bar Management that you only need 140 points minimum. I know you said about your Irish result. There's no harm in applying or talking to them about it!

Just hope something comes up where I dont need irish, WHERE would I apply Irish to anything:rolleyes:

    anyway thanks for your help!
made me feel better about it in a way:D

    I ****ed up too
285, was aiming for 400. Thought it was over, ended up taking a course that had extra vacancy. 3 years on and no regrets, course turned out be something that suited me perfectly.
So I can tell from personal experience that No, you're not doomed :)

Now for some ****tyness, 275 means it would be difficult to get into a course in NUIG compared to GMIT, but don't let that put you off. The cao systems is indeed confusing at times. I would suggest that you contact your secondry school careers advisor, they can prob give you the best advice with your situation, especially since they know you.

Nobody can really tell you what course to take, it can be hit & miss but its best you make that decision yourself.
Do GMIT have an open day soon?
    Open day is in december

Really you are best contacting GMIT yourself!!

I know that bugs me about Irish!! It's like courses where you need a certain grade for maths and you aren't using maths... but i suppose that's just college's general requirements

Just remember that they won't be looking for reasons to turn you away and you never know just say it's not that popular a course, they might allow you in without meeting the irish grade

would you consider going back and doing your irish again? pain in the arse i know but i know some people who have gone back and repeated a subject!

I was in your position, didn't do great, spent 2 years in a PLC college & now in my 1st year of private college. It's difficult trying to figure out what you want to do etc

    Good Luck!

OH, and most colleges will accept a B in foundo, if they won't be using it.

There's a few PLC places in Galway:

    www.gti.ie
    http://www.galwaycc.ie/
    http://www.yeatscollege.ie/

I did one at the Galway Community College. If I recall correctly, it can be used as a backdoor into college.

I am almost finished year 4 in Heritage studies.

I got an E in Honours Irish and Honours German...

Have no idea how they let me in!!!

I would recommend doing a PLC course in GTI. I completed one last year and I would highly recommend it. As someone previously said, "its a back door into college". With you results, NUIG is unfortunately going to be very hard to get into. But with a good FETAC course you will be able to get into any course in GMIT and go on from there. I also have a terrible Leaving Cert, I suffered from a very common mental illness back then, known as; headupmyasss syndrome. Fortunately I got over that (or should I say out?). The key is to keep on moving and don't worry that you didn't do stellar in the Past. Whats important is that you realize that and want to continue on and learn.

I hope everything works out for you,

    Irishwiseguy.

No op you are not doomed.I got 275 and got my first choice lv7 degree course. There are plenty of courses around for that amount of points and most of them only require a min d3 in ordinary english and maths.
