    Hey

I'm looking to get a band started. I mainly play rhythm guitar and can sing a bit but my main thing is songwriting - I'm not bad with lyrics and melodies. Initially looking for someone to colloborate with on the music - someone into writing/arranging/recording - ideally a a Brian Wilson-esque musical genuis if you're out there ??(minus the LSD habit + 5 year depression bouts. Fireman helmet optional). After we've worked on some songs then the idea would be to put a big band together - noisy melodic indie pop - think velvets / yo la tengo / pavement / teenage fanclub / go-betweens / boo radleys / architecture in helsinki / concretes / broken social scene kind of thing - jangly guitars, strings, brass, keys etc. ( so anyone who plays any of these and is intersted in this kind of sound feel free to shout now also...)

I've just posted some very rough demos (with me on vocals) here -
    www.myspace.com/thecrayonset

Will post more shortly. Other songs which I won't post rock more but don't work with just guitar and my vocals...can send on though...
Does this sound of interest? If so please mail thecrayonset@gmail.com or leave a message on the myspace address. Please give some info on what you're into, what you play, age, location etc. Neither Experience nor incredible musicianship nec. - but some dedication and creativity are

I'm 31 and live in south Dublin.

    Cheers

    Rob

    Hey Rob,

I might be interested - I listened to the samples you posted, and although I'm more interested in up-tempo rock, I thought they were quite promising.

I consider myself a frustrated musical genius, so perhaps I fulfill the first criterion you set out. I happen to play drums and guitar, although I reckon I can turn my hand to bass / keyboards / random samples, or just about anything, if I really sat down and thought about it. I have a bunch of half-songs written myself, but I need to find some other people to collaborate in order to finish them. I also happen to be in South Dublin (during the week at least).

If you're interested in talking things over, drop me a PM.

    Bump.
This band is coming together nicely but would still like to hear from:
    a) a female singer (think more Feist/Concretes/cardigans than Aretha Franklin/Mariah Carey/ pop idol types)
    b) and maybe a pianist or someone who can play a few instruments - maybe some brass? (lots of different instruments playing indie pop and acoustic pop is where we want to go).

Please get in touch for more details

    Thanks

    Hey dr rob.

Im liking your music and am interested in starting a band.Im a singer/guitarist(have played for 10yrs)/and questionable drummer! Im 20 and living in the city centre, Into singer song writer/indie/rock type of thing eg Badly drawn boy, josh ritter, damian rice, feist, wallis bird, yeah yeah yeahs, beck, radiohead, bloc party, muse, QOTSA.....the list is literally endless. Im originally from roscommon, iv played mind numbing covers in d pubs there......really want to do sum originals but im not much of a lyricist. Iv been told i hav a good voice tho and i am female so maybe im that female singer your looking for! Hope to here from you.
