I think this is the right thread but if it ain't, apologies. I'm currently working as an engineer and i need to brush up on my technical writing skills. Can any of ye recommend a good books on technical report writing. Just looking for a good book as a guide more than anything, with some good tips maybe or common pitfalls.

    Any suggestions?

Engineer's Ireland do a technical report writing course - I did it last year and found it to be good. Two days long, not sure of the cost, think it was 800.

I can see on the calendar they have one scheduled for Jan 30&31 and also March 4&5.

Not sure about books but the best technical writers are the guys who really own the subject/the product they are working on and have a training/consulting background.

The thing is to make sure what you are writing is going to be easily understandable by the ones reading it.

In my opinion you should get a couple of technical books from Microsoft, O'Reilly, etc..that might be more helpful.

Not sure if it is applicable but you would prob get some handy pointers from it but "The portable technical writer" is a book that I found good for writing manuals and reports.
