    hello,
i soon wish to travel to hrta and in my current situation the only way i can do such is taking public transport, now obviously taking my airsoft on a bus might be a bit dodgy, does anyone have any expertese in this area?

also does anyone know the best way to get from busaras to hrta in the shortest time and lowest cost. i know this may be a dodgy area hence why im asking but im sure i couldnt be the only person needing to use public transport and would appreciate all the advice i can get, thanks in advance :)

I to am wondering about public transport to HRTA?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,469 ✭✭✭weeder

knew i wasnt the only one ;)

well the obvious part would be concealing your BDU and AEG/springer/Gas in soe form of gearbag and possibly put it in cargo under the bus.

popanddrop if you were coming to dublin the same way as me (and possibly my friend) we could split a taxi and it would be cheaper than dublin bus or w/e maybe im not really sure on pricing.

would we have to inform the driver we are carrying what we have or better to just throw the bags in and say nothing? im thinking the latter myself

    Me three!!!!!

I dont drive and am living in the arse end of the country
so for me to get from Limerick to Dublin its a 4 hour bus journey
and then the task of figuring out how the hell to get to HRTA and
back again and then back to Limerick all in the one day.

I'm old and grumpy and thats way too much aggro/expensive and hassle
    than its worth.

To be honest its too much hassle. Much prefer to have a local skirmish
site with maybe a few times a year meet up with other players from
other counties but looks like that wont happen any time soon.

Make sure you keep your Aeg in a proper case or bag with the mags empty and out of the rifle. Keep the battery out of the rifle as well, obviously under no circumstances should the rifle be taken out of the bag. If the bus has a separate cargo hold then it would be a good idea to put it in there.

Wear as little of your tac gear as possible, boots and combats won't draw any looks but going out in full BDus would be a bad idea :D Keep the rest in a gear bag and as with the rifle don't take it out until you get to HRTA. Oh you should probably keep your battery and BB's in your gear bag as opposed to your rifle bag, this way should questions be asked you can legitimately say you took every care to ensure that should your rifle be taken from you it could not easily be made ready to fire.

    Better safe than sorry.

Guys your best bet would be to take a train to lusk & rush train station and get a taxi from there to HRTA but ask for a driver with gps because its a pain in the arse to find

thanks for the info, i dont exactly have a rifle bag, would a seperate gear bag just do the trick? also im not very sure youd be able to get a proper "rifle bag" for my mp5 since its not actually a rifle.

all very new to this:o itd 1:50 bus journey to busaras if anyone wants to know from where i am

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,258 ✭✭✭Cheeky monkey

Should be able to fit the mp5 in a back pack... thats what I usualy do with my g36 if you have anything bigger I'd suggest a guitar case

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,984 ✭✭✭NakedDex

I'm genuinely thinking of getting a violin case and kitting it out like I did with my MP7 case. Just for effect

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,469 ✭✭✭weeder

like the episode of the simpsons where krusty bets away his daughters violin and they are going to steal it back and they come to a room full of violin cases and the majority of them contain tommy guns :D

I use a soft guitar case myself. Roll the rifle up in my combat jacket along with an assault vest or whatever to give it some padding. Mags and battery go in the front pouch.

Just make sure it has a nice big heavy duty zip. People were buying rifle bags from ehobbyasia at one point (myself included) and the zip were splitting and breaking with the weight. Not something you want happening in the middle of town...or anywhere for that matter.

yeah but you'd look a bit silly at HRTA in Spats and a pinstripe suit :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,984 ✭✭✭NakedDex

You clearly didn't see me wearing a full Desert Storm loadout in HRTA last time. If I can make that look good, I can make pinstripe look good too!

I have a web-tex rifle slip. It's available in OD and Black and it's got a fair amount of padding in it, a hefty zip and several pouches up it's length. Picked it up in an surplus/shooting store for 45 bucks. Seems pricey but it's been a God-send to have. Carries any rifle I have along with all associated extras and it's been mistaken as a guitar case by several taxi drivers so it's far from conspicuous.

so the basic thought here is gun in one bag and bdu/BBs and mags in another and keep the BBs out of the mag?

wash your mouth out young man!, i was born and bred here and its not "dodgy".,:p

anyway, try fishing shops for very good cases to carry your stuff., even the argos catalouge has them., there very sturdy and water resistant too., busaras is only across the road from connolly where you could get the train to lusk.,
if your just bringing an MP5 then you wont need much stuff, you can pack everything into one back but obviously dont have them loaded.,

With a roughly 3-4 hour drive from Limerick to Dublin by car (never mind bus ... even longer due to route and stoppages), you'd be better off heading up the evening before and staying friends or something, and then perhaps heading home Saturday evening.

would it not be easer geting a taxi from swords village and i would be willing to go in on a taxi with people when i get my aeg

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 179 ✭✭TheFlatulator

Weeder - you could always get a set of waterproof leggings and then cut it up the middle and seal off one end and then add a zip to the other end to make a rifle carrier for half nothing...

I made one last night and if its just black you could bring it on a train etc. easy for transport

I've done the rush & lusk way before and I have to say it was an utter pain in the bollix. The train station is in the wilderness so you have to walk at least 15 minutes to get to the town, and from there you'll discover that all the taxi's operate out of swords villages.

Yea, going to swords village is the by far the easier option and getting a taxi out to HRTA. The problem is getting back from HRTA. Myself and two other lads where let down by a driver who said he would be back but subsequently changed his mind. Lucky dave was will to give us a lift.

About a week ago a lad was on here talking about running a mini bus to hrta and back. I'll drop him a pm.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,643 ✭✭✭0ubliette

yeah that might be an idea, a few people meet in swords village and get a joe maxi out there?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,163 ✭✭✭✭Boston

Done it before, it works. Cost like 14 euro from lusk, but would be cheaper if the taxi driver knew where he was going. I've an urge to play this weekend, so whose up for meeting?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,469 ✭✭✭weeder

dont think i will this weekend anyway, next weekend might suit me if ive the cash

could you not ring a taxi firm before hand and book a taxi to be there when the train comes in?

the train journey for me is about 1:30 shorter tbh so it might be handierfor me then if i can ring a taxi before hand

or i could take the train to connoly and get the bus out to swords villiage.

yeah how about next weekend? This sat is a bit short notice

lads is there a resturant nearby or is it in more of a remote place and you bring your own lunch?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,163 ✭✭✭✭Boston

    Theres nothing near by.

I'll emphasis what Boston said here. When he says there's nothing nearby, there really is nothing nearby, so get your food-stuffs before you venture out past Swords village (or equivalent).

Unless of course, you like being hungry for extended periods of time

Or you're willing to brave Contractor Catering ;)

    Bah!

Contractor Catering is always top notch.

It's not always on though, so bringing along something to eat is never a bad idea.

There's usually people heading to the shops at lunch time anyway, so you could try and scrounge a lift off somebody, or see if they'll take an order for ya.

There was a few lads came up last week in a mini-bus, it didn't look like it was full so try getting in touch with them to see if you can hop on it too.

problem is with the bus that it leaves at half 9 and the bus journey is nearly four hours(train is only 3) and to be in rush and lusk it would require me to get the 6:45 train.

what are the opening hours of hrta? i know the site says 10:30 but isnt that the old site? i was just curious since the mini bus leaves swords at half 9

3 hours by car at the most. I've done Limerick to the center of Meath in 2 hours 40 minutes. The N4 really makes it an easy run. Bus is about 4 to 4 and a half (depends which one you get). Train is just under 2 hours 30 minutes. The train is expensive at 50 yo-yos return (unless you have a travel card) but it's comfortable and there's enough room for you to keep your stuff at your side.

working on a new way up,how much would a taxi from malahide station to swords be? and how long would it take to get from mal to swords?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,397 ✭✭✭Evolute

Get the bus into swords village and contact Seamus-2k7 about his mini-bus to HRTA it isnt too expensive if I remember right it was a fiver from swords village.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,469 ✭✭✭weeder

problem is his bus leaves swords at 10PM

problem is if i take the earliest bus it wont arrive in swords till just after 11 but the train comes into malahide at 9:10 so getting a taxi from malahide to swords and hopping onto the bus would work for me tbh

both train and bus leave gorey at the same time
