Right this is my first proper photo taken on my new camera and uploaded to my flickr. Comments and criticisms welcome. My favourite thing about the photo is the way that you can see the candle reflected behind the photo frame

    A nice touching picture :)

Personally though I find the in focus candle in the front a bit too distracting for my eyes. I'd prefer to have it out of the frame (with the reflection still visible behind the picture) to emphasis the main subject.

With the candle present it just feels like this is a rememberance photo or something similar (unless that is the effect you were going for?)

But certainly it's a nice photo.

    Thanks Thirdfox
Wasn't a rememberance photo (except the rememberance of a great night) at all had just light the candle and was sitting all evening debating what way would be best to take the photo

you should print that photo, and take a shot of it by candlelight.

One other thing to keep in mind is that a clean prop would certainly help in preserving the mood of the image (perhaps you could wipe the candle holder to get rid of the excess wax next time?)

Photo within a photo idea might be something you could try out too like magicbastarder said.
