Problems with eircom email

Hey, anyone else having problems with their eircom email addy? If I try to send emails from the website about 50% go through and the rest get "Error - Cannot connect to socket on mail1.eircom.net". Won't even go through the error messages I'm getting from Thunderbird. Also eircom's online help keeps crashing saying "the knowledge server is not running please try later". Desperately trying to avoid a phone call as it takes hours to get the right person to talk to in there! Anyone any insight into this problem?

Trouble downloading email for ages and today eircom told me cange server to mail1.eircom.net

Looked at http://support.eircom.net/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE/&/?St=51&E=0000000000106151385&K=618&SXI=2&E=0000000000106151385&St=51&K=618&SXI=2&case=1865&branch=4 and the telnet command does not work I get 'telnet' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. I cannot run telnet.exe from run either says it cannot find it

mail1.eircom.net, mail2.eircom.net, mail.eircom.net, pop.eircom.net, smtp.eircom.net and probably a few others I haven't tried all resolve to the same IP address, namely 159.134.198.135 so it doesn't matter which one you use. It was probably a coincidence that changing it to mail2 worked.

Either the smtp or the pop3 service (rarely both) becomes unresponsive every now and then, but usually comes back after a while.

Eircom tech support told me mail2 is a backup server
