Buying a MacBook from US?

Okay, perhaps a "Silly Question" but I've never owned a Mac before. I'm thinking of buying a MacBook when I'm in New York next month and need some advice.

Is the DVD player on the MacBook limited to Region1 or is it multi-region?

Also, what about power supply? Am I okay to use a US adaptor and plug it into the wall or is the fact that there's a power transformer invovled important?

Any other information would be valuable, thanks.

Macbooks offer a limited number of DVD region changes before it "locks" to the region you play your DVD's from.

Powersupply will be fine. You just need an adaptor, or one of Apple's own plug "heads" for the lead to plug it in over here :)

And don't forget to get AppleCare as well, if you still have the budget for it.

VLC Media Player plays back DVDs from all different regions on my PC. I'm sure the Mac version will do the same (It's free to download)

Nope, as it's the drive that will lock to the region, not the playing software.

    I wouldn't recommend it personally ;)

I'd get something like this on eBay

http://images.channeladvisor.com/Sell/SSProfiles/73000224/Images/1/UKPLUG%20copy.jpg which will fit into the slow on the adaptor :)

I have a PC that demands I switch the region on my Sony DVD-ROM drive to play Region 1...but only if I play it with Windows Media Player. VLC doesn't ask for any switch at all.

It's a known lock-in issue with the current Macbook DVD drives -- there are no firmware hacks (yet, or ever). AFAIK

I used X region in my New Macbook bought 4 days ago and works perfect no firmware option to make it region free however but changed it to european region.

Yup, got my Macbook to play multiregion by loading up RPC-1 firmware into my superdrive and using Region X to switch regions whenever I like, handy out, only owrks for some drives I believe.
