Power output from new Pace box.

    Hi Guys,

I am trying to find out the power output from the RF2 connection on my Pace DS445NB box.
I have a one for all signal amplifier that claims that it allows the IR to pass through, but it does not seem to. Talking with oneforall, they reckon the power out of the box itself is not enough to power the 2 IR's. But even if I only have one connected, it still does not work. I haver turned on and off the power to the connection and no joy.

Any ideas on a fix, and/or the power output would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    Roy.

I take it you have turned on the power output to RF2?

    Hi dkane,

Yeah, I have tuned it on. I find that sometimes the magic eye needs to get a new signal, hence why I try turning off and on. (I come from a pc background and reboot/turn off-on everything when there is a problem)

Check the connectors to make sure that none of the braid is touching the centre conductor.
If the cables are particularly long consider soldering the centre pin to the connector to make a better connection.
If you have a multimetre you can check the voltage across the cable.

The run is only about 15m, so I dont think the problem is there. I have checked all connections, and none of the strands of the braiding are touching the central core. I know the connector on the box is Ok as the eye works when the amplifier is not connected, but obviously the 2nd tv can't change channel then. Could it be a magic eye problem? They are by Global communication.

I will bring my multimeter in 2morow and see what reading I get.

Check the voltage at the far end of the cables. It should be around 9V. Also worth disconnecting the eye from the remote tv and seeing if it works. Sometimes a faulty eye will allow the DC voltage to pass through it into the TV. If this happens the eye might not work when connected to the TV but will when disconnected.

The eye does not work (no LED) whether or not connected to the tv when through the amplifier

If both eyes work when the One For All amp is bypassed, then I'd blame the amp.

For some reason, re-connected amp after a few days off with the flu, and all working fine (for now). Did nothing different, no new cables, very strange.....
