    Hi,
I was planning on going to the states for the summer but between one thing and another I will be staying in Ireland for the summer now. I would be interested in a job like Maplin or Peats. Is it easy to get summer jobs in these kind of shops?
I am doing computer science and have a great interest in anything electronics or computers. What kind of job would I have a decent chance of getting and with a decent wage, something along the lines of €9.50-€10 per hour.

    Thanks..

    Why don't you try
    1. Microsoft
    2. Google
    3. IBM
    4. AIB
    5. BOI
    6. JP Morgan
    7. Deloitte
All these companies can accomodate interns in the summer...

I'm sorry I forgot to mention that i'm only first year in CS so my knowledge is still limited. I doubt i'd be any use to the companies listed above. But thanks for the reply MIN..

It doesn't matter.... You are only there to gain experience and it's for 3/4 months. I know aib for sure do them

Really? What would be expected of me? Where would I find more info on this?

Some of the jobs assigned to students can be really basic. (I'm sure not all of them, but some of them are, for definite)
For example, they could have you just running batch files and recording results. I.e. doing pretty basic data entry.
It'll look great on the CV though, even if the work is boring!

    Hi Guys,

Sorry for not replying in a while, I was sitting exams.

I will most certainly look into some of the above companies.

Dotty, my main concern was the complete opposite. I'd be afraid of being totally clueless. Although i'm sure you can be put doing awfully boring things..

techguy I always get emails from my college careers office about IT summer placements, they usually start sending them around now -> march. If you PM me your email address I'd happily forward them onto you.

Sorry, what I meant by my reply is that you will, more than likely, be very capable of doing any job they might give you. They appreciate that you're still learning so they won't assign anything majorly complex unless they can see that you can carry it out.

    @Brandon, I will PM you..
