I was lucky enough to win a ticket to this year's Irish Open. I now have to decide which starting day (Thursday or Friday) I want to play in.

Does anyone with have any opinions on the pros and cons of either day?

Maybe if you play Thursday, you can have Friday off and come back on Saturday if you're still in the tourney.

i seen someone(maybe nickyod) post in another thread that a lot of the pros who travel will choose the friday as they wont want to be hanging around with nothing to do for a day
this seems to make sense so maybe thursday will be a little easier

a few reason why to play Thursday:

    1. expect smaller field and less pro's and most of them will fly in late and reg for the last available day
    2. Rest day on Friday
    3. As Friday is a no pub day, most people will want this day etc.
    4. If you get knock out on Thursday, you have the weekend to yourself.

a few reason why to play Friday:

    1. Bigger field so more chips in play and hopefully more fish.
    2. Friday rolls into Saturday, so you can keep the roll going.
    3. No pubs open on Friday, so you cant do anything anyway, so may aswell play poker.

Friday because, if you make it to day 2 it probally means you are playing well and it'll be easier to keep the momentum going. If you have a day off so many things can happen to tilt you or put you in a bad state of mind for day 2, getting raped in the cash games for one.

This is wrong - the difference between the number playing day 1a and day 1b will be negligible if in fact there is any difference at all.

Keep your eyes peeled folks - this one is en route to selling out.

lol. I think "wrong" is a bit strong Noel. If you look at any major tournament in the world that uses multi start days, the last day always as more players. If the event sells out, thats a different story. It was only a personal view.

sorry Ollie I didnt mean to be so venemous in my respose. Obv what you say above is correct but as the IO is on course for selling out there will be little difference between the numbers on either of the start days.

I would go with this thinking myself as the WSOP stats show that a higher percentage of players that start on the last day one end up not making the final table.....However there are only two day one's's's's here so fatigute is not going to be much of an issue.

Congrats on winning the ticket Dinjo, best of luck.
