    Hey,

    I am a qualified Engineer currently on a year out and travelling in Asia. I'm not 100% sure that I want to continue working in this field when I get home, and Ive always thought that Id make a good teacher. Also, I love travelling, so the summer holidays would be ideal for extended trips. So basically I have a few questions:

    1) What is the starting salary?

    2) How much does this salary increase yearly and whats the maximum?

    3) I have degree in Electronic and Computer Engineering. What else do I need to do to become a teacher? Hdip?

    4) Is it possible to get a job as a sub teacher without further study to check if I like it?

    5) Any other tips or advice would be great.

    Thanks.

    starting salary depends on a couple of things;
    1. hons/pass degree
    2. masters
    3 hdip (PGDE) hons/pass
    4. being registered with the teaching council
    (check out the asti website for further details on figures)

    if you're not sure about teaching i'd definitely recommend trying to get some sub teaching or even teaching TEFL will give you an idea, before you apply for further study.

    its my first year teaching and i went back to do the hdip after working for 3 years and i can honestly say its the best decision i've made... (just make sure the holidays aren't your only enticement!)

    best of luck with your decision
