I remember seeing the first chopper one day many moons ago hovering over tallaght, with the cone of light going straight down. I just knew there was someone standing in the centre of the light, looking up, arms outstretched yelling "Take me!! Take me!! I know you have Elvis!!"

Garda chopper made the long and dangerous trip to Dundalk about 2 weeks back and spent 15 minutes hovering over a house two streets back from us. This was about 1.30am. A car used in a ramming incident had been abandoned in the area and they were looking for the culprits. It was funny, all my neighbours out in the street in their nightclothes pointing and wondering what was going on...

I've never been woken up by it, but one time I was sitting in the john taking a sh*t (pleasant picture for you) when I saw alot of light out the bathroom window. I stuck my head out to have a peek and lo and behold, the Garda helicopter was hovering over the house with the light pointed into the garden. There was also 2 Gardai walking along the wall in the back garden, with flashlights. I gather they were looking for someone.

Probably the most exciting sh*t I've ever had. Except for that time I went to Busch Gardens rollercoaster park in Florida........

Did Airwolf have one? Blue Thunder had a Whisper Mode, Airwolf always struck me as a far less subtle chopper.

Could well have just been blue thunder alright

It was Blue Thunder. But they couldn't fly in whisper mode, only hover.

But then Airwolf had more guns and missiles and stuff.

And String was cool. Not like yerman in Blue Thunder.

that garda chopper much have a flight path that it sticks to every night., at about 1am nearly every night it is over my house without fail, then it'll do a few laps and pis off., it very annoying being there every night when you know there is no real reason for it, it would be ok if they were chasing someone i suppose but its getting very annoying., anyone know of an RPGs getting sold on the QT?

I'll give ya one for €320. Quality stuff like.

I've also got a Honda Civic if you're in the market.

Helichopters used to bug me when I lived in Johannesburg, but thats because it felt like they were hovering 10 feet above my roof. Doesn't bother me now though.

Well seeing as there are 3 Gardai Helicopters and one Garda Plane of the GASU based at Baldonnel AB and flown by Irish Air Corps pilots and Manned by Gardai id imagine you live close to Baldonnel so they must have been doing night time VFR/IFR Training into Baldonnel or circuits of Baldonnel Training new pilots to fly at Night.

With the exception of the fixed wing Aircraft what you saw could have been either:

    Reg. 255, AS355N Squirrel (Garda AS2).
    Reg. 256, EC 135 T2 (Garda AS3).
    Reg. 272, EC 135 T2 (Garda AS4).

The GASU now Operate the following:
    Reg. 254, Defender (Garda AS1).
    Reg. 255, AS355N Squirrel (Garda AS2).
    Reg. 256, EC 135 T2 (Garda AS3).
    Reg. 272, EC 135 T2 (Garda AS4).

Welcome to Finglas, if you look to the sky on your right you will see the weekly PWF* patrol, usually they're busy guiding the ground forces to the best spots to watch some outdoor underage sex, on occasion though they will get them to chase a cat through the park for the laugh.:D

The two EC 135's were doing a demo for the press in HQ yesterday.

I hope the monkeys in the a-zoo didn't get too upset with all the racket.

    Airwolf did have a stealth-mode.

I wonder if the cops (& Styer?) refer to Baldonnell as "The Lair"? ;)
