for ease of access to the m7 in the morning estates on either the abbeyleix road or stradbally road or kilminchy would be your best bet as you'd avoid the town centre. kilminchy is handy as has the spar and pub and chinese and indian restaurants there. i think everywhere in portlaoise has broadband now.
actually the mountrath road would be good too as you can get on the motorway there too. basically just avoid the tullamore side of town and you should be fine.

thanks for the help derek169. Would you have the name of any estates that youd be familiar with on these roads as can start lookin properly then. Would like to stay within walkin distance of town if easily possible. Also heard Fairgreen village is nice. Where is that located and does anyone have anymore info.

Fairgreen Village is a new estate at the end of Mountmellick Road, about 30 mins walking distance from the Town Centre. Nice place to live (heard from my friend who has recently bought a house there), as there is SPAR for basic shoppings and not to crowded yet.
I, personally, live in Rockview (Mountrath Road) and find it nice as well. 10 mins from centre, only two roundabouts from N7. The only problem is with the rail tracks. They're really close, but after a while you can get used to and no longer hear the trains. It has Magnet broadband.

I live in Mountrath myself and I travel to Naas South everyday driving the speed limit and it is 42 miles one way it take me approx 40-45 mins to get to work which is not to bad at all, if you did them miles in Dublin surely it would take you all day to get back and forward in the traffic, Portloaise is nicely built up but there is far too much traffic and twin roundabouts, I suppose there is not too many traffic lights which is probably a better thing to keep the traffic moving...

As for Mountrath we have a couple of shops lots of pubs and plenty of traffic, but it moves pretty quick as for the small town

Regarding estates im not too sure im an Ex Dub living in the country... If you take a tour of the town you can tell which estates can be avoided

    Happy Hunting

    Hi Op

I'd suggest you go to portlaoise and have a look at what estates would suit your needs. Personally There would be quite a few I couldn't live in v built up and crowded. Either way you need to stay out of the town as traffic is as bad as dublin!
