So whats everyones plans for hunting when the end of January comes???

Im gonna concentrate on Magpies and Greycrows for the breeding season, the odd fox if ones happens to come my way. Im gonna set up a larcen trap in my garden this year and work my way out around where i hunt to try and get the B*stards (i urge everyone to do the same, the country is plagued!).

Im gonna lay off crows in general (except greys), as after this years very poor numbers in pheasents i think they could do with a little help in getting the predators that take there eggs and i dont think Rooks are too guilty of this act.

Once late summer is here then its pidgeon time for a month or two and then its back at the ducks and hopefully this setter of mine will retreive from water at the stage. I have a lot of work to put into that dog this year too, but i hope to have her right for the 1st of November.

Im also due to be a father in April so it looks like this years gonna be a busy one!

    Whats everyones elses plans???

Im the same as most of the other lads-in mid febuary i will dust off the larsen trap and nail a few greys and mags for 2 or three months
I will lamp for foxes most nights up until the end of april and let them raise there cubs then back at them at the end of july.
Probably do a bit of digging with the terriers and lamp a few rabbits with the wippets.
Then onto the pigeons at harvest time cant wait:D

I have serious vermon control to take care of as soon as the season ends. I plan to take a concentrated burst at it as things haven't been good as regards numbers this year.
I have also a young setter which I have neglected over the past few months and I want to get some work into her and hopefully she'll be of a standard to have a go at a puppy stake in July/August.
I'll probably have a go at a couple of the spring and summer trials with the old setter - who is only there to make up the numbers! There has also been pub talk about a trip to Scotland for the grouse in August or September but it looks like the cost is a bit prohibitive.

Stevo, is this your first? I have three kids now and all birthdays fall within the shootng season - it can play havoc with your Saturday if you don't plan things in advance!!

Will leave the pheasants alone from now on, but will continue to lamp foxes up to Paddys Day or there about. (My lamping partner has been working away from Cork & is only back recently so lots of lamping to catch up on).

Grey crow etc, rabbit & pigeon for the crop season & any mink where ever the occasion arises.

And I have some clays to blow away in the meantime.

Greys, Magpies and Foxes are top of my agenda. Our birds have been very poor this season. (150 Tagged, only 1 reported shot ????)

€30 per 100, great gun room and the Gillilands' are sound, Indoor air rifle as well and computer simulated shooting, my kids love that.

You have a buttoner provided which is good crack cause on the sporting layouts you can shoot buttoners choice. (i.e you don't know whats coming)

What I like about Flynns at Courtlough is the fact you can have a drink and a spot to eat.

I haven't got the full schedule of 2008 trials yet Stevo but last year the Northern Ireland Pointer Club held theirs on Slievanorra, Co Antrim and the Ulster Red Setter Club held theirs on Murley Mountain, Co Tyrone, both in September. With so few trialling, it is difficult sometimes to get enough dogs for a puppy stake.
I'm sure there would be at least one puppy stake on Kinnity, Offaly and also one in the Wicklow Mountains. There would also be more grouse there too I would say.

Yep, we use our clay pigeon trap when the season closes. Great way to spend an afternoon! But of course, living on quite a bit of land, we always have Mr. Fox crossing the fields!
