    Can anyone help me.

I bought a PS3 and set it up onto my Philips HD LCD TV but it only has a DVI port. I bought a HDMI to DVI cable but can anyone advise how to get the sound working. So far to I have to use the scart lead. How do I set up the Sound cable (Red/White) to the DVI sound port?

    Thanks,

    Thanks,

I had same problems before with the Philips 26 inch LCD.

After much trolling on the internet i learned that you cannot run sound via the HDMI to DVI. I had to run sound seperately via surround sound speakers and the AV sockets seperate as well as leaving in the HDMI/DVI for the HD picture.

    Thanks Colm Ranger,

So to get sound i do the following:

    1. Connect the PS3 to the TV using a HDMI to DVi cable
    2. Then connect speakers via the AV socket on the PS3

    Am I right?

    Thanks,

One thing to remember, if your monitor doesn't support HDCP via DVI, you will be unable to view Blu-Ray films.
If your monitor is more than a year old, it probably doesn't support HDCP.

Thanks for the reply, what is HCDP??

All I know is the guys in ID told me when I bought the TV is that is was a very good one and is HD ready. Good one my ar&E as it has no HDMI ports, only one DVI port!

HDCP = HD Content Protection. Its a protection, DRM system that is mandatory for Blu-Ray content on HDTVs & monitors.
The PS3 wasn't really designed for use with a PC monitor. You can use HDMI to DVI converter and play games fine but no Blu-Ray films if monitor isn't HDCP compatible.

    Whats the monitor model no.?

Ohh yeah, I wouldn't believe a word from any sales guy mouth, they haven't a clue.

    It's a TV not a monitor, a Philips 32inc LCD HD Ready

    Should it work on this?

Forgive me, I read it as a Philips monitor.
You would be better to connect the PS3 using component cables instead. It carries audio and video. There should be 3 video connectors (green, blue and yellow) and red and white for audio.

edit: It must be a fairly old model if it didn't have HDMI ports

I find phillips equally frustrating. They are good TVs but lack things found on basic/cheaper brands such as PC input/VGA

I have a 12 month old Philips 37" and it has 2 x HDMI, component, composite, 2 x Scart, in fact it may even have PC input, but I don't need it, so I never checked.

Just to add Jonathan2011, I had the same problem with my LG 32" LCD TV. I had to pruchase a DVI to HDMI (Ebay) and had to get a surround system for the sound. I picked up a cheap Logitech system LX - XXXX (cant remember the model) which came with a PS2\3 sound adapter. Happy Days now

My Philips 26 inch had the identical issues.

This Philips tv does not have sockets for component cables either.

The only option is the one i said earlier i.e. using a surround sound or external speaker plugged into the scart lead sockets that came with the console originally for sound and the Hi Def picture will work in conjunction with the HDMi to DVI adaptor for good HD picture.
