Which player (apart from Roy of the Rovers) once scored a hat trick in a First Division/Premier League (genuinely can't remember which was in operation at the time) then, when his keeper was sent off for a professional foul in the same match, went into goal and saved the subsequent penalty?

    This has been done.

OK Maybe I'm exaggerating this. Maybe it was only one goal he scored before going into goal and saving a penalty.

I remember it happening but I think the old memory is playing tricks with me.

    Still quite a feat though.

Did Niall Quinn do something like this early in his career?

    That's the man.

I remember it being reported. It was while he was at Man City. I thought it was a hat trick but then maybe memory is playing tricks with me because there USED to be a question like that about a cup final and of course the answer was ROTR.

Don't know of anyone else who has managed something like this.

And here's the video evidence -

Great save. I'd have gotten this straight away if it wasn't for the misleading 'hattrick'.
