I was asked to take a photo of Listowel castle at night, so I decided that I would take it just before it got totally dark, It will be used for an office if he likes it. I really like it myself but my family have mixed feelings about it
    C&C is welcome

    Regards Fireman

PS See other post!!!! It's back again

You deleted the wrong thread Fireman!

My opinion for what it's worth. Castle looks great against the sky. Would need to change the angle or crop it to lose the floodlights at the front, and maybe clone out the street light on the right? Castle looks over exposed as well. Really do love the blue of the sky against the castle though.

Thanks for the reply whyulittle, The customer asked me to try and take in as much as the entrance as possible, as for the street light I didn't see it I will certainly take it out and tone down the castle

I think the castle is a little blown out with the lights. Maybe try to bring it down a bit in PS to make the image blend together a bit more (could be White balance thats making it look a bit unnatural?). I think the bushes in the foreground are a bit distracting as well as the floodlights. If you got in close & lower to angle your shot upwards perhaps to get rid of the bushes and have the floodlight out of the shot I think you'd have a much more dramatic shot.

You've got a beautifully coloured sky there so your timing to catch the light was good. If you've got a tripod then I'd say to use it and try shoot at f8 or f11 to get the sharpest image from your lens as well.

If it's meant to look like an entrance then try to imagine what an entrance should look like to you. A shot taking the path leading to the castle could conjure up the idea of an entrance in most peoples minds I think?

    Pete.

Nice image but agree with some of the stuff already said.

Just out of interest, what aperture did you use as it seems sharp at the top but not at the bottom?? Was it handheld or on a tripod?? What WB setting was your camera on??

Nice try with it tho, defo go back and have another go!! :D

The shutter speed 3.2, aperture 7.1, WB was set at cloudy dammm!!!!!only just realized it

My tripod is only fit for the skip it will not hold camera + grip vertical as it is only plastic (7dayshop) that might explain why it isn't so sharp as I had to support it while taking the shot I purchased it years ago, a good manfrotto is my next purchase

    seems somewhat overexposed to me..

Yep as already said, its too orange and bright for me.. Also little branches at the bottom of picture are distracting.. Maybe try another angle to the castle as I dont feel this one could show it at its best.. Get up on the wall running along the perimeter of the pic maybe?

Agreed with the above. Shot is a little overexposed and looks a little soft too....and the white balance might need some adjustment. Why not revisit the scene and take a few more shots? Maybe try a smaller aperture (F22?) and low ISO (not forgetting your trusty tripod and remote release!) Another perspective might also be quite cool (perhaps up close with a wideangle or go back a distance and shoot with a telephoto?)? Just my tuppence worth :)

I have a decent interest in photographs of buildings and most architecture really.
One of my pet hats is seen in the OP. This isn't a dig at the photographer of the image, as it was out of your control, i'm talking about buildings that are terribly lit externally.
The lights in the OP look to be low pressure sodium or similar, harsh orange glow. Its all over dublin too, but often worse, at least the whole building is lit, unlike say the four courts where the top and bottom are either really bright or darkness.

Anyway, less rant more C&C. I'd probably shoot again but shoot earlier, so that the lights aren't as contrsting with the ambient light.
Maybe shoot a few times of the day and pick the best

tbh everywhere is badly lit.. think we (photographers) should start a petition?:D
