Well i honestly didnt see this one coming, Kirk Hammet has come up with a signiture amp.......and its a Randall! Its pretty much an mts i think.

Some Vidos of it are on youtube, must say i dont find the tone exactly appealing. Link here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7n0r2Qs51kU&feature=related .

There was one clip going around a few weeks ago where Kirk talked about the amp and went over it's features.....he hadn't a clue what it was called or what it was about...looked like the first time he'd seen the thing :D

Its so fanishable to say mettalica sold out. Hardly post of the year material. However kirk seems to know nothing about the amp. He seems VERY underwhelmed in the interview.

Well he doesn't seem to know anything about the amp, i'd be surprised if he's even used it or plans to ever use it.

Can't speak for the cables, but Steve Vai's signiature gear is pretty damn awesome. I'd take a Jem over a Kirk sig guitar any day, and there's no knocking the Bad Horsie wah.

TBH, Kirk always sounds like that, even when talking about his solos. See the Wherever I May Roam solo conversation on the Classic Albums DVD. It'd s decent sounding wee amp. It would have been nice if he'd brought something out with Mesa or some form of ADA or JMP-1 preamp but seeing as Metallica is the most popular band for people to emulate, why not bring out an amp to help them along the way?

    Signature solder tbh

I wonder what the price is gonna be?

On the subject of signature stuff, Eric Johnson has a signature Dunlop Jazz III pick now....:eek:

those KH amps are supsoed to be stupidly cheap, i forget where i seen the prices for em, but they're cheap anyways!

Don't they have an SS poweramp? I think the regular Randall with the modules has that. There's an individual preamp tube in each module.

My two cents on signature gear: Its not yours.

Seriously I can never shake that feeling when it comes to signature gear, it isn't mine, it has someone else's name on it.

Think I'll just download this amp

Ok, so you try tell that to all the people who have bought Les Paul's in the last 50 odd years!

Bastard, I was gonna make that joke soon!

I know what you're getting at Joe, pretty much every instrument brand ever is named after the guy that founded the company, but you come to accept those as merely brand names. Like no one thinks of a Fender guitar as being a Leo Fender sig model, its just a Fender brand guitar.

    Agreed.

But then again, someone has to come up with the spec, if not some schmoe in the company why not some guy making a living playing the thing. So many signature models are ****e though, the basic model with a different colour paint or some miniscule insignificant difference which is enough to jack the price up, I see no harm in a musician coming up with a good and funtional specification provided they use the bloody thing.

Signature cable is the step too far though, that much is true.

You're a bit wrong there though. Les Paul didn't found Gibson, he is/was one of their endorsers. Thats the point I'm making. You shouldn't just discount a piece of gear because its a signature.

A Fender guitar isn't a Leo Fender signature.
Hell! Leo didn't even play guitar. He designed them, with help from others and founded the company.

Imo, its gonna be a good amp. Cant go by clips because usually they are pretty crap and not cranked.

But if you were to crank it bet it would sound a whole lot better than that video.

The price is rediculous tho, I would just buy a mts and get those modules which are the same price as every other module out there. so you'd be saving alot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,658 ✭✭✭Patricide

yea, i cant see why anyone woulnt just buy an mts, isnt it just the same thing?

    I disagree.

In fact, a fair few of my guitars are signiature models, and often times you just forget that they're sigs. In the case of my Universe (It's a Vai sig, btw) it doesn't have his name anywhere on it. And in reality, most people wouldn't even recognise a signiature model.

Honestly, I think you'd be depriving yourself of some serious quality gear if you discounted signiature models. Hell, I don't even like some of the artists whos signiature gear I have (K-7 for example).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,658 ✭✭✭Patricide

I concur with hungus on this one, the ibanez vai and satrianis are a step above a lot of there standard gear, same as the k7. For me personally tone is everything, if i think a guitar looks terrible or whatever i wont care as long as the build quality and everything is up to scratch(that is unless the piece of gear actually makes me sick to my stomoch, parker fly bass anyone--before you comment hungus i think the guitars are sezy but it just doesnt work as a bass)

signature **** is always kick ass specs, but its not for me, + its impossible, ima leftie... nit i dont want someone elses name on it, but it is always good specs, i wudnt get a sig amp either

ill stick with my 100£ strat i modified to bits, its the bees knees :)

Oh I know all that, Leo Fender was an electrician by trade if I recall, but you must know where I'm comin' from right?
