I noticed today(in Cork) and before christmas that some channels are carrying subtitles automatically without pressing p.888 on teletext. The channels affected are the main english channels and this afternoon only ch4.I had to press sub-titles on the sagem remote to switch them off. AFAIK. this is an interactive service. Does this suggest testing in advance of a further roll-out?

Some stations (usually the english ones as you mention) carry digital subtitles. This is not part of the interactive service. On the UPC box I have you can enable/disable them.
