Qualifying as a solicitor in Dublin

I was wondering if anyone could give me a bit of advice here.

I have a law degree which I gained at University of Ulster and originally had moved over to England to qualify as a solicitor. However, I ended up making a balls of it (long story) and ended up here back in Belfast where I've been working at various bit and pieces since. However, recently I having been giving thought to having another crack at things. The system here in Northern Ireland would be very difficult for me as it would involve being out of full time work for a full two years which would be, at best tough, and probably impossible.

I just wanted someone to outline what exactly is involved in pursuing the professional qualification down in Dublin. Are there entrance criteria? Do you have a block period where you are in university then a period with a firm or do you do both simultaneuously like a training contract with an accountancy practice? How long does the whole thing take etc?

Any advice would be fantastic folks.

    Cheers :)
