DBoys K98

    Hi ,
I did try and search , and am sure that I read here somewhere about the DBoys K98 - but cannot find the post .
Has anyone bought one yet - I know at the quoted price its no Tanaka nor Marushin , but Wow !! Plastic stock , and real shell ejecting metal action ....
I am older than I want to admit , and if into the history of Toy guns and Airsoft , you may not believe this , but way way back in the mid 70's in Dublin I had a shell ejecting plastic stocked/metal action K98 .....extremely high quality , cannot remember where bought but possibly over the border up North . A lot of toy guns back then were made in Italy by Edison Giacotilli (?) , and also Lone Star . I cannot remember if the shells actually fired a bb - but the bolt action cocking did 'clack' when fired , and running around the garden in my kids German Army uniform , watching the shells jump skyward when ejected was amazing .....I did have another bb firing toy gun so suspect my K98 did as well ....
Went really well with my paper cap firing Lone Star Luger - ohh the smell of gunpowder caps in the morning ...

:o sorry , I got carried away with nostalgia , nothing to do with Airsoft .....

Theres a thread in the main airsoft forum, I revived it last week, theres a guy who ordered one before Christmas and is still waiting on it. Apparently its under 328fps.

Was it here too I seen a mention of DBOYS releasing a K98 with a wood stock?

I did post some PM's re using genuine ex Surplus kit on airsoft - wood grips etcetec . There are good grades of ex mil K98 stocks in walnut for those who can't wait ...plus leather slings genuine and repro at a fraction of the cost of say a Tanaka sling for the K98 .
Parts which are really accessories are not considered a stress bearing part of a firearm so no probs importing mail order from US ( into UK - check with ROI laws ).

An ex-mil stock would be nice alright Topper, but I was thinking what level of 'hand fitting' would have to be done? The internals (trig mech and magazine) of an airsoft gun may not be similar to that of a real steel K98. I seriously doubth it'd be a case of simply dropping it into another stock. But maybe I'm wrong

Well you are right really , but I spent my youth in n.Dublin building model kits etc .....many times I was skint so had to try and scratchbuild from virtually nothing :o ... Don't get m,e wrong - I'm no model engineer .
Have 'nt built a kit or model in a long time since leaving Dublin ....but just bought me a shiny new Micro Power Drill with all the bits and polishing wheels .....my first project is to get some surplus walnut grips for my HFC Broomhandle Mauser and 'make' 'em fit ...a bit of sanding here , a bit there ...
Anyway , my friend who does WW1 re-enactment swears by his Dremel and I cannot believe the stuff he does with this tiny drill/polisher .
Re-enactors are a strange bunch - they will enthuse for hours on how to re create a piece that can now only be found in as a battle relic , and sit down and actually make it .

There will always be probs with exact fit , but if there is no choice ...

That brings backs memories, haha, I spent my fair share of time making guns out of wood too and if memory serves me right there should be a K98 hiding in the shed somewhere that I made years back, I refused to dump it or break it up, good memories :p. There might even be an attempt at an MG42 (I may have got rid of that) I'll have a look later though.

I remember a friend at work with more money than me , gave me a wad to buy some of the then in fashion plastic Model Guns - plastic kits . Very high quality and they seemed to be everywhere once . I went shopping up over the border to Belfast to the tiny crammed shop called The Modeller's Nook , and came away with an M16 and a Magnum .357 . Think the parents were a bit worried driving back over the border :p

I spent ages on the .357 , making it look 'authentic' - gouging the shiny plastic grips with a file to replicate wear and tear , then painting them , then daubing black paint on/wiping it off to simulate dents and scratches ...I was gutted when my friend took delivery and said he hated it :o.
He said he would build up HIS M16 himself .....Lol!!!

In truth , these were plastic kits BUT were very early Airsoft - each plastic 'bullet' had a tiny spring inside , and on firing - the bullet 'head' flew down the barrel . Never really did like them as they always jammed but hey .....
