Bag Allowance at Airports

I know the rules have changed lately but I was wondering Whats the state of play with laptops. I was in Dublin Airport last week and the poster over the Ryanair desks says one piece of baggage only plus a laptop (or something to that affect). Does that mean you can have a separate bag i.e laptop bag for you laptop?

Dependent on both the airline you travel with and the airport you travel out of.

In an Irish airport that will usually be fine. But be careful if you need to fly back via a UK airport. They're due to abolish the single bag restriction, but I don't know whether they have yet.

I always have my laptop in the bag so it doesnt really matter to me.

Bear in mind you will have to take the laptop out of the bag to be scanned on its own.

Usually only have my laptop bag as carry on myself.

This was on a sign at the ryanair check in desk before the rule changes. The girlfirend was complaing as she couldnt bring her hand bag but was ok to bring a laptop on its own.

Only reason I'm askig is that I want to bring the laptop on a trip to the UK on Friday but I'm not sure what I should bring

Get a case or bag that is the maximum size allowed. Place laptop in centre, add other possessions.

I pack like a girl so I'd need the seperate bag for the laptop.

I'll prob just carry the laptop on and put a small laptop bag in the bigger one and take it out later

Bring a spare bag.
You only need it to get through the queue to security, once through you can unpack it again.
At Stanstead though they will weigh that bag if it looks too big, so keep heavy stuff in your pockets to keep it under 10Kg or whatever.

BTW AFAIAA Aer LIngus let you combine weight between multiple passengers so you can take a 30Kg bag but RyanAir will screw you if you go over your individual weight.

Thats the plan. Going to Gatwick with Ryanair.
