US Visa Interview

    Hi

I've applied for a 6 month US tourist visa (B-2 I think) and have to do an interview for it, I was told I need the following for my application to be successful:

    1. Proof that I can support myself financially for 6 months.
    2. Proof that I am going to travel, i.e. e-mails from friends/relatives I am planning on visiting
    3. Proof that I will be returning home after the 6 months, i.e. Bills in my name, letter from employer etc.

Has anyone here ever done this interview before??

On point 1, how much money do you need to have to prove that you can support yourself financially for 6 months??
On point 3, I won't actually be going home after the 6 months, I will be moving on to SA and Australia, however I can't really prove this as I can't plan these trips, book flights etc. until I know whether my US Visa application has been successful or not. If I tell them this will they just ake my word for it?? I'm guessing they won't...

Are the 6 month tourist Visa's usually tough to get??

I would doubt it too. My suggestion is to buy a ticket for a destination outside the USA for the end of your 6 month period. Purchase a fully flexible, fully refundable one if you can (call any of the airline's reservation centres and they'll price it for you) - it'll be more expensive but you'll be able to cash it in when it's no longer needed and get all your money back from the airline involved. Either that, or buy a cheapo fare to somewhere outside the US on whatever airline you can find and sacrifice the money.

I never done the interview for that category of visa. But i done one for an F1 visa for when i went to college over there. I was told by an immigration lawayer that i should prove that i have a thousand dollars for the first 6 months of my stay until i got a job.

They will not take your word for it. They will want proof of onward travel, such as a plane ticket out of the country, a bus ticket out of the country or even a hotel or hostel booked in another country. Any proof of what i just mentioned will suffice as evidence that you do not intend to exceed the length of your stay. And as far as i know with the category B visas, the immigration officer decides your the length of your visa. I don't think it is a set 6 month one. Maybe i'm wrong on that. You should call up the US embassy in Dublin and ask them any questions you have.
