Have found this forum to very helpful, just have two queries,

How hard is it to get from deskside and supporting company servers, backups to get into networking proper, have heard that even with relevant exams , CCNA etc it can take a while and also, how hard is it to get a helpdesk job which is 3rd level, ie data internet support for businesses, would appreciate it a lot if someone could post up the relevant flow charts career wise...

What is "networking proper" ? It's not an exact science, depends what you want to do, if you like the idea of working with cisco kit then get a job as junior admin and show a keen interest and start working towards your CCNA/CCNP I would of assumed the sort of natural progression for a junior admin would be a snr sys/net admin

I would have been a junior admin before , now doing a not too dissmilar role, but contracting (for ltd company thank god) , but theres a limit (obviously) on what access i have got to network, thanks for ure response. i guess by networking proper i meant a networking role with one of BT,Eircom, o2 etc
