If you are willing to pay then Transmit is the way to go. If you want something open source then I like Cyberduck!

Yeah I prefer opensource really, does transmit have many advantages over the likes of cyberduck katie lady?

Its certainly more robust than Cyberduck, which seems to issue updates every few days, and Ive found Cyberduck crashes a lot! I prefer the Transmit GUI as well, and just has a nicer look and feel about it. It also has a nice iDisk integration setup if you use iDisk, plus its widget is a lot nicer than the Cyberduck one. The dock status indicator in the latest version is also very nice.

Cyberduck is a great free app. I do prefer opensource myself, and mostly use open source apps on my Mac. However, after a couple of uses of Transmit I was reluctant to go back to Cyberduck, even if it has a cute app icon hehe

Cyberduck, i won't be a poor student for much longer (got me work placement in 2 weeks) but until then open source = good.

still testing the waters with different clients...cyberduck is nice, filezilla is more functional, transmit i'll look into, think there's a free trial...

I use the (free) FireFTP add-on for Firefox and find it works very nicely.

    FireFTP suits me nicely too.

FireFTP seems to be a winner here, very nice.

    try FileZilla!!!

i've had to use it in a particular instance where transmit just wouldn't behave well behind a proxy. Other than that one instance i'm Transmit all the way!

the title of this thread reminds me of the Father Ted episode where one of the priests says 'Whats your favorite humming noise'?

    hmmmMMMmMMhmmMm.

I like Cyberduckie (I call it that) as it was actually the only FTP client that worked for me on a particular host. I like it now and find it easy to use and it integrates nicely with TextWrangler which I use for editing HTML/PHP.

However, it does tend to fail when I chuck a load of folders at it unfortunately. It hasn't crashed but it doesn't like big loads. I think I'll give it another update and then if it's still the same I'll go through this thread properly.

Yup, Filezilla was the first I tried - I like that it's open source and supports many platforms and the app itself is very indepth...
