    Hi,

I'm also looking for a laptop. I have never had one before and I have been looking at the Dell Inspiron 1520 and the Inspiron 1525! Can anyone give me their opinion on either of these laptops. General spec is 1.66 Ghz 2GB Ram 160 Hardrive! Or if there is any other laptop you would recommended I would be delighted to be pointed in the right direction. Only looking to spend around €700.00.

    Many thanks.

The 1520 is the older one. The Inspiron 1525 is a new slightly slimmer model. Its middle of the road laptop. Thats probably the budget you'll spend for that spec. Peats have a Sony with a similar spec for 699 for example. I'd probably go for the one with the longest battery life.

I've split these posts off into their own thread.

Thank you for your help! Just one or two more questions if you don't mind, was wondering would be worth increase the processor from 1.66 to 2.00 ghz for 80.00 and also getting bluetooth for 40 euro? A couple of computer magazine websites have given the 1525 a good review especially for its budget!

CPU upgrade is useful something that needs it like working with Video or something. Standard office stuff I'm not sure I'd bother. Bluetooth is useful if you use bluetooth things like mice, keyboards, mobile phones, bluetooth headphones. I've bluetooth on my laptop and I've never used it. Really depends on yourself and what you'd use it for. One upgrade I'd consider is a 9 cell battery. More battery life is always good on a laptop. Makes it slightly bigger/heavier.

Theres a good review of it here.

I'd shop around on the Dell site both on the main store and on the outlet. You can add (on the main store) different machines and configurations and them compare them. Some times Dell price things weird and you can get a better spec by noddling around on the website. At the moment some of the Dell Vostros come with a free 9 cell battery but when you add VAT they aren't any cheaper than the insprions.

Thanks Boston B. I read the view on the link you gave me. There was also another review on laptopmag.com! Not a bad price for the spec!

Thanks for the link. Never seen that website before.

My first computer had 4MB Ram and a 80GB HD cost about 2k. So I think the deals you get these days are great.

I have a 5160 inspiron and it is dogged with problems and is currently only useful as a paper weight! :) You only have to type inspiron 5160 in google and you will get numberous hits for motherboards dying and ac jack problems due to overheating and bad design. Im not buying another dell ever again. Sony Vaio for me next time.
