Could I be pregnant?

I came off the pill about 6 months ago and my periods have been fairly regular, abour 30-32 days.

I had my last period on the 22nd Nov, that was 52 days ago.

I had unprotected sex on around the 25th Nov, just as my period was ending.
Again on 31st Dec and again last night.

I have taken 2 pregnancy tests, one yesterday and one about 2 weeks ago. They both gave a negative result.

    Could I still be pregnant?

Yes, talk to a doctor. Are you trying to get pregnant?

    Go to your dr.

Am in a relationship for 5 years now and we have been discussing trying for a baby but not 'trying' yet.

Know I should go to the doctor but dont want to look stupid as I have 2 negatives already.

If you're not trying, visit the doctor and make sure you're not :)

You should go anyway, as if you're not pregnant there could be some other reason why your period hasn't come. Home pregnancy tests won't show a conclusive result until a certain amount of time has passed since conception, but as far as I'm aware a blood test will, ur doc could do one if you really want to.

    Ok, thanks for the advice.

Will give it until the end of the week and see if they start.

Cant face up to going to the doctor yet, feel as if id look silly for thinking I was pregnant but also dont want it confirmed that Im not as I am hoping I am.

U don't need to feel silly, there's nothing wrong with wanting to be sure. If you did concieve on the 31st, it could very well be to early for a home pregnancy test to detect the level of pregnancy hormone in your urine.

Best of luck OP, I hope you get the result you're hoping for.

I've no idea if you're pregnant or not....lost track of your maths there.

But just wanted to say that I've found Clearblue to be the best pregnancy test.
It always told me up to 3-4 days before my period was due if I was pregnant.
First Response is advertised as the one that shows earliest but I never found this to be the case.

    Best of luck with it.

It was clearblue that I've used both times.

I've heard from others too that they are the best, thats what adds to not wanting to go to the doctor!

I have had false negative, go to your dr.

    Go the doctor!

And dont try an at-home blood test. There was a horrible story of what happened to a woman who used one....

    good luck

Trust me I wouldnt go that far!

    Hi OP,

I had two false negatives with Clearblue, then had a positive with the First Response test.

You should go to your doctor anyway. If you aren't pregnant, your missed period needs to be looked into.

    Best of luck!

Thanks for all the responses guys.

I'm a first time user and was afraid nobody would reply!

Looks like there is still hope with the negatives!

Definitely! I had a negative, a week later and still no period, tested again and it was positive!

    Just happened. You know yourself.

We have been discussing it for a good few months and now that I could be pregnant we have realised we want to start trying for a baby.

What does your partner think about the negative results?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19 cocochanel7

I think he had convinced himself that I was pregnant because but now that I had another negative test yesterday I think he just thinks I'm late.

He finds it hard to understand why Im so late if Im not pregnant and so do I to be honest.

That's why it is important to see your doc. Hopefully you're late because you are pregnant, however the doctor can check to make sure nothing else is affecting your cycle. Sometimes it can take a while for your cycle to settle down completely when you come off the pill. I experienced regular periods for the first two months, now I'm back to my good old irregular self.

Yeah I know, I was shocked when my periods regulated so quickly.

Had been on the pill for 6 years so was expecting it to take ages for my cycle to get back to normal.

Yes, I was taking it for 4 years so I wasn't too sure what would happen. I was horribly irregular before I went on it, so I reckon I'm back to normal now :)

    Hey guys,

    Still havent got my periods:confused:
Went to the doc, waiting for blood test results.
Said I could possibly have thyroid problems or low iron levels.
The nurse who took my blood said that if these come back ok, to test AGAIN!!I thought that blood tests also detect pregnancy??

Is it possible to be pregnant and for it not to show up on pregnancy tests?

I really hope I am pregnant, do you think that could be stopping my periods?

AFAIK they have to be testing the blood for the pregnancy hormone. If they think that you've got low iron or thyroid problems, they'll be checking your haemoglobin levels and thyroxine (sp). My sis in law is a haemotologist and she said that the lab running your sample probably won't test for pregnancy hormone unless the doc specifically asks for it. It's possible to be pregnant and the test to show negative if you test too early, and there's not enough hormones in your urine, that's how you could test negative, then test again a week later and show positive.

Doesnt look likely then, it couldnt exactly be considered too early to test.

Just hoping that its not my thyroid. Have heard that this can make it difficult to get pregnant.:(
