New 'sculptures' on O'Connell Street

    Hey,

There are four new sculptures on the island on O'Connell Street. Hard to describe. Each one is like a rectangular pillar, and on each side, there's an animated man or woman, made out of lights, kind of walking on the spot.

They look pretty funky, but I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about them. If they're permanent etc..

    K.

    Just noticed them today.

    Very neat little things.

It seems to be a family with a father, mother, son and daughter.

I'd love to know more about them.

    EDIT: Ah... found this...

Terrible photo... but it seems there is a 5th one up by the gallery.

I don't know what to make of them, certainly better than them bloody Norsk style statues that littered the place for a period :d

I find it a little disturbing that they don't seem to have feet.

But your ok with them having a floating, expresionless ball for a head?

Ooooh, she's nice! Isn't that more of a strut than a walk? Like she's approaching the bed with intent :D

You don't have to go down O'Connell St to read the thread.

Photos don't do them justice though.... You really need to see them.

Has anyone seen the 5th one, up by the gallery yet?

    What is it? Old man?

I would have liked to see a small one with a yorkshire terrier in it or something.

Having the crash barriers around them to try and deter thieves/vandals is a uniquely Irish slant on the experience of street art....

Only one of them had the barriers when I saw them on Sunday... I don't know if it was because the cement was still setting or something though. Perhaps the area directly in front of the GPO has more vandals then the area in front of Beshoffs.

I second the call for the return of kung fu hares to our main street.

    Down with these walkers.

I like them, anything to brighten up O'Connell St should be welcomed. I imagine they will be removed eventually though.
