I just came across these. Some of the stuff might be of use to some of the folks who frequent this forum. The Power Station looks like a handy wee yoke to have and not bad for €40.

By way of comparision, the same item is featuring on Max tv - ch 666 for those of you that have sky, or www.max.tv. Priced at £24.99 plus postage. With the good euro/sterling rate might be worth a punt if you miss out in Aldi.

I got a set of axle stands and the hydraulic jack from Lidl (same thing really) a few months back, no problem at all with them. I however would be wary of getting any electrical items from them, as I've had problems before with some electrical items.

Trolley jack for €16.99.. that's the cheapest I've seen them. Add a pair of jack stands for €9.99 and you've no excuse for not changing the oil yourself!

I've bought cut & ring spanner sets from Aldi - now they're not in the same league as Teng or Britool, but they're still pretty good, and well worth the money.

how confident would you feel lying under your car with €9.99 axle stands holding it up?

About as confident as I do lying under the car with my €17.99 stands holding it up. If you saw how they're made, it doesn't matter what they cost, they're not going to collapse.

Am going to grab that seat, will save my knees aching in the evenings hopefully....I'd also agree with Colm, no way i'd go under a car held up by 10eur axle stands.

i've changed the back box on my car using the aldi Jack & axel stands no probs.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,461 ✭✭✭Max_Damage

I took the engine out of my car with the axle stands holding the front end of the car up. No problems whatsoever. They are all certified by the German safety association TÜV

Yeah I would not put my finger under a car lifted by a Aldi 16 euro trolley...
I bought a 90 euro one from Alford and I don't even trust it...

so, why'd you buy it, then??

And, if you like, I can sell you an ACTUAL faulty jack for, say.........100 ? At least you know where you stand (sic  ), then.........

Over the last few years I've jacked many cars up with a €25 jack, and held them up with €18 stands. All that stuff is basically the same regardless of who made it. Would you trust a cheap hammer? If it can hammer in nails who cares..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,495 ✭✭✭Zorba

Who cares who does or doesn't feel safe under stands, it's personal choice after all.

    CrosstownK

Thanks for letting us know about the stuff though CrosstownK i for one will be down to get a jack, stands and stratch remover, am tempted by that jump start thing too though ;)

Booster pack is good, I got one last year, Ive never had to use it on my own car, but I have saved a few random unfortunates in carparks more than once. Makes you feel like a superhero :D:D just make sure you give it a charge once a month or so, otherwise you end up looking like the worst superhero ever :D

    LOL

Is the compressor on it any good for pumping up tires ? Is there a gauge on it to tell u what the tire pressure is ?

If its the same jack as Lidl had, it doesn't raise enough to get the axel stands in underneath... cue some fun using the spare tyres from other cars to change my oil filter a while ago...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,538 ✭✭✭niceirishfella

my wife bought the Primula plant in Terracotta for €3.99 -
not much fooking use to me for changing the oil in the car.......LOL:p

    Typical Irish attitude ..

If it costs less it must be rubbish

I'd go with whatever their rated for, rather than how much i paid for them. TUV certification is very stringent.

    From Aldi website:

    The jack:

Lifting range approx. 135-316mm (with load), 135-356mm (without load)

    And the stands:

    Minimum height: 270mm
    Maximum height: 360mm

I got a set of them the last time, simply because they were TUV approved.

They have held up Primera during brake pad change, Micra during shock change and a MK2 Escort during an engine change! So they do work

The folding is bloody handy for storage.

Got the jack, car stands and the power station this morning and it's all super so far. The power station will even pump the tires on my racing bike to 120 psi, worth the 40 quid for that alone, sure i'd have spent that on a standing pump anyway !

100% confident. Because unless your're a total clueless prat you're going to also have timber blocks supporting the car incase the axle stands fail

Ya, I find that lengths of 4"x4" work well along the chassis rails, with the other wheels on the ground chocked.

I always have somebody standing near the car or within shouting distance with a trolley jack ready in case of trouble....

Although I've been a total clueless prat on occasion......

I think we're getting a bit paranoid here....Yes - accidents do happen to people working under cars, but inevitably they're using the car jack (i.e. as supplied with the car) without any supports or chocks and on unvenen or soft ground.

I'd never get under a car relying on any jack alone, but the axle stands are designed for the job.

I'd prefer to be paranoid then wear a car as a hat!! 1'd use the axle standard some wood blocks and have the jack snug. and obviosuly the choks!!

Got the scratch repair kit in Finglas aldi, no dent puller kits in stock and they guy in aldi said they won't be getting any in

Think I'd stick with johncleary on this one. Benchpressing a car with my face is very low down on the list of desireable experiences before I die, and as you should know from films, de heavies lookiing for Mr X only come round when your legs are sticking out from under the car, so you'd be glad of those wooden blocks when they kick out your axle stands.

That and positioning them wrongly of course or kids jumping in to the car to play or minor earthquakes or....
