Just did these two today and yesterday (the film strip wrecking my head as it was so big. Really need a new comp). Anyway just wanted some C&C on them, any suggestions or ideas? Got the idea for the seocnd from a tutorial site, came out ok I think. And it's from a shot i took the other day so no complaining. ;)

You're not gonna get away with it that easily. Some of us here have axes that are a wee bit blunt and could do with a hell of a grinding. Like Oriel who shall remain nameless.

ok first things first, as this is a photo crit not a GA crit is the photographs

photos are taken with light from the front that is bad. Try to get some shadow by placing some light at the side for the men and at a 45 deg angle for the girl
the girl is pretty and I think you should have made more of that.

poster is good gritty working class cheap printing vibe. good for a college band.

I think the point is to have the faces in a semi circle of sorts, with the left-most portrait looking left at a fairly sharp angle, the second portrait looking leftward at a softer angle, the centre portrait straight on, the girl looking right at a soft angle and the fifth looking right at a more extreme angle. I think shadows might take from this effect somewhat, in fact front lighting is really the only way to go IMO. Although I agree some depth would be good, maybe have the left most figure looking entirely to the left i.e, showing just a side profile. Same for the right most portrait.

Is the girl pretty enough to warrant special attention? i think the emphasis should definetely be on the middle portrait - he's the frontman and definetely looks the most 'rock n roll'. As for the poster, I like it. Very stylised.

Oh I dunno. I think I'm maybe feeling a bit jaded. I'm sorry - I'm not usually overly-critical but is the film strip thing not a bit over-done? Did they ask for it specifically? I honestly really love your stuff usually. Thats the only reason I'm commenting..

And I'm currently in the mood to hate vector-style graphics. That's just me though, and stupid college.

Which do you hate more? The film strip or poster? Be honest.

I'l join you in the "stupid college", club. At least til my exams are over. I've never done any vector kinda stuff, so when I saw that tutorial I tohught it could look good with the car. As for the film, probably has been done to death, but so has everything really with bands. Didn't want to do another "brick wall" shot etc, but I'm sure that will come later down the line. :D

And if you're still wreckin your head over those Button Factory shots Sinead, don't, they really were good.
