New Army

I've been playing for a few years. Started out with fantasy Orcs and Goblins, then High Elves and then Chaos
The last army I collected was a Necron army and I'm pretty much finished.
So, I'm gonna start a new army around Easter I think, but I don't know what it should be. Preferably fantasy because I want to get back into it, but I'm open to 40k or anything else for that matter.
    Suggestions???

You might want to narrow it down a bit for us first.

    Which system do you prefer?

Do you favour horde armies, or small elite ones?

Slow and grinding, or fast movers?

    Firepower or close quarters?

Seeing as you said 'or anything else'...

I'd really recommend Hordes or WarMachine from Privateer Press (http://www.privateerpress.com). They're two similar, compatible systems. I slightly prefer Hordes, but you can play them against each other anyway, so it's not that big a difference.

They also have some very nice minis, if it's the painting side you're mainly interested in, check out http://www.privateerpress.com/WARMACHINE/gallery/default.php?level=picture&id=336

I've no WFB experience, but I play Tyranids and Necrons in 40k. I prefer the PP games, though I still enjoy 40k.

If you're in Dublin there's a lot of players in Models Inc (dublin games guild mainly), and I know the underground gamers also play.

I don't know what the scene is like outside of Dublin, though i know some of the cork lads were talking about playing it.

Yeah I'm in South Dublin so that could be handy. Does Models Inc. sell privateer press stuff? And eh preferably Warhammer, and I think I may be in the mood for horde armies. Not Orcs and Goblins though. Is there any Battlefleet Gothic or Necromunda players here actually? Always been curious...

in the area of 40k maybe you would like to hone your skills with an army that provides you a polar oppossite of the Necron: Blazing speed and flexibility and impressive prowess in close combat.

I of course refer, to the Eldar. Keeping 2 grav tanks on the field and fleeting banshees on the field and a tough squad of striking scorpions is core to a serious can of whoop-ass. And theyre just damn beautiful models. The new wraithlord is just sexual.

Eldar... they're a bit too.... goody-goody.... if they brought out a new Dark Eldar codex maybe...

Oh and in relation to the privateer press stuff, I must say, the models are really lovely. Might give WarMachine a go in time.

Dark Eldar are rumoured to be getting the next new codex, to go along with their appearance in the next Dawn of War expansion pack.

    Yep, they sell both.

There's necromunda players in there too, and I know some people have BFG fleets though I've never seen it played. I actually bought one on a friends recommendation but then got completely distracted by Hordes.

If you want a horde army, then the 40K tyranids make a nice one. I've gone the other way, towards the big gribblies, just because painting that many models is self-harm imo.

If you like Battlefleet Gothic, you could also have a look at the Babylon 5: A Call to Arms game, by Mongoose.

I know this year there will be a new vampire count codex and new models as well but they wont be out until March or April. That is if you like evil blood suckers :)

I've always had an interest in Vampire Counts... maybe Strigoi...
I'm so tempted to buy the Necron fleet.

I'd be a little wary about buying into BfG, simply because I can't remember the last time I saw anyone playing it. I'd check your local gamers for anyone that still plays first, otherwise you may end up with your fleet just gathering dust.

Yeah twould be pretty pointless... and the only BFG pla\yers I've ever seen were in Nottingham. :(
