cracked roof tile- where to get replacement? easy to replace?

Can anybody advise me on where I could get a tile to replace the cracked tile in the pictures please.

It is directly in the flow from a downpipe so I would like to replace it ASAP!

Will I have to buy a batch or is it possible to get a single tile?

What is the technical name for this type of tile.

I presume it is straight forward to replace myself.

    Thanks

    Milmo

You could lift and swap with a tile from a less exposed part of the roof, and perhaps try and bond the split tile.

There's probably no panic re leak as tiels are generally well overlapped and the felt underlay should provide some protection in the short term. Take the split tile to a local Chadwicks/Brooks etc, looks like a fairly popular design so you shouldn't have too much difficulty in finding a replacement.

    Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately I discovered the crack because water was dripping on to the ceiling through a hole in the felt just under the crack. I've no idea how the hole in the felt formed and can only presume it was the action of the water over a period of time coming through the roof tile.

Thing will be fine once I replace the tile.

Does builders providers sell individual tiles??

    Thanks

Not many providers sell Roof tiles as they generally come direct from the manufacturers like roadstone

Im going to open you to the possibility that the leak could also be around the flashing at the chimney.

You can get a product called "flashband" its an aluminium flashing with a sticky bitumen underside, you could lift up the tile on top and place the flashband over the crack. This would stop the leak until you get the other tile for now, - if that is the cause.

Its not difficult to replace the tile but like all things its "easy when you know how"

Tiles are nailed to battens with 2 nails, but only every second and somtimes 3rd row is nailed, if you are unluckey to be on a row thats nailed its a little more tricky.

In the meantime just check if there is a leak on the inside of the attic ...I find that the felt generally acts as a barrier to such leaks and because the tiles are over lapped and in particular because the crack is in the top of the ridge of the tile i have mty suspicions as to the cause of the leak..

You will get that tile from Roadstone in Clondalkin, got a couple of those exact ones myself during the summer, they gave them to me as samples - no charge. If you are anywhere near Dublin, hopefully that might suit.

There is a lafarge roof tile that looks pretty much the same as that.
If you go to a builders merchant and ask nicely for just the one tile, they can get it from the sales rep for you.
Otherwise you could maybe go to a builders merchant and say that you are looking for a sample tile for the house you are building............

    hi milmo
that is a common pan tile. it should say on the back who it is made by. depending on the area you are in it should be easy enough to get. the problem is you will have to go to the manufacturers to get it. i.e roadstone ,morriseys quinn etc. if it is a condron tile you may be able to get a replacement at chadwicks. i know chadwicks in lucan carry their tiles. there is not much doubt that the broken tile is the cause of the leak. always look for the simplest answer first. to change the tile just push the one above it up,take out the offender and replace it, then simply pull the tile back down.
