Hawaii vs more touring of West Coast

We're going to America for 3 weeks at end of summer. So far we have planned for LA, Big Sur, San Fran, Yosemite, Las Vegas & Grand Canyon. That takes us up to 2 weeks. Then we are either going to keep going around the West Coast to take in San Diego ( and anywhere else people can recommend)or go to Hawaii for 3/4 nights. Thing is if we do go to Hawaii we get a flight to Dublin that leaves on a Friday has one connection flight which will mean we won't get home until the Sunday. So should we stay on West Coast and see more rather than rushing things to get to Hawaii!?? Hope this makes sense...cheers!!

Hi, I did a similar trip last summer, although spent 6 weeks on in insteed of 3. tbh hawaii was beautiful but i don't think it was all it was cracked up to be. granted we went at the end of our trip, spent 10 days there i think, in maui and were pretty broke at that stage but it is quite expensive. the flight also took 6 or 7 hours (we flew from vegas) and worked out pretty expenisve. coming home we had to fly from Maui to dublin which ended up taking 36 hours or something ridiculous. It depends what you are looking for - maui has lots of hiking, waterfalls, snorkling etc. and the beaches are gorgeous, but not really much happening at night. i would recommend spending more time on west coast, definately do san diego, we only spent 4 days there and that wasn't enough.

By the way, are you plannin on rentin a car and driving?

that is a LOT of driving to do over 2 weeks if you have!

for your reply Aimee. Yeah we are renting a car...we will have 3 weeks to do the route I was telling you, just including San Diego in the end after Grand Canyon. We have decided not to go to hawaii as we don't want to end up seeing nothing properly & rushing to go there for last few days! Any other tips!!??
