    can someone help me?
anytime i try to watch a .avi file on my laptop the vision is distorted. the black/white image is ok, but the colours are spread across the screen. it only happens with real life footage as cgi and cartoons are ok, well the ones ive watched anyway. i have used vlc, media player(windows and classic), zoom, and mpc.
i tried installing all the codec packs i can find and uninstalled them and just tried it with media player, but then it doesn't recognise the visual image.
its on a toshiba satellite, celeron 399mhz, 192 ram with winxp.
    any ideas?
    thanks in advance
