I'm going travelling for a while and looking to change to a phone with the biggest/best camera i can find so i can avoid carrying a phone and digital camera everywhere i go.

there are a few prepay 3.2mp cameras from 3, O2, meteor and vodafone.

can anyone recommend a 3.2mp+ camera in something available in ireland or elsewhere, sim-free or otherwise? thanks.

The K800i is available for less than 140e now. Can't go wrong with that.

the k800i for its class is flawless. Great flash, proper autofocus and video resolutionis quite good...both thumbs up. compared to the n73 3.2megapixel which is rubbish in low light scenes.

I've been impressed by the K800i's photos - they are comparable to compact digital cameras of maybe 3/4 years ago. (Speaking as a user of a dSLR)

It'd be a handy thing to carry around for snaps (especially with its proper flash). But I wouldn't want to be shooting anything serious with it. If you are going on holiday then I would suggest a proper camera with far superior optics and less noise, optical zoom etc. etc. and modern compact cameras can be quite small. Take a look at the Canon A series - lots of creative control for quite a low price.

Or to really take those memorable shots you may want to invest in a dSLR (I use the Nikon D40) - the camera is a slightly larger than say a phone or a compact camera but for me the superior image quality is worth it.

These are small versions of photos I took on the D40. And I do not profess to be in any way great at photography. The full size images are available to be seen on my flickr page (see sig). So if you want to be creative a dSLR is neither large nor costly (like in the past) and produces great images...

One thing is that if you don't want to print your images then a camera phone may be enough. But do a full size image search for K800i photos on flickr and you'll see you wouldn't want to be printing out anything above 6x4" (I recently ordered a 45x33cm canvas print from a photo taken on my D40).

Oh I found a good example of what I mean by the quality and flaws of the k800i demonstrated on a picture I found on flicker at http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=2134226429&size=l :

    2134226429_1d5cf71636_b.jpg

Great shot of a bird in flight which someone might have missed if the camera wasn't available in that split second.

But you can see lot's of smudging of detail in the sea. And noise in the shadows... down scaled and put on a pc the image will probably look fantastic. Printed out at 6x4 it is probably borderline acceptable but if you want to make enlargements beyond that it starts to look like a watercolour painting (which you may like ;))

The camera of the N82 is comparable with digital cameras of last year:D,

serious, its miles better than the N95, amazing to fit this much into a phone. and no nasty slidey.

I've found the K750i and W810i decent but only in good light, 2mp with autofocus. I use them a lot for snaps. On flickr you can explore by camera type and that includes camera phones. You can get a feel for whats possible. I think the Nokia's look a bit unnatural and a lot of them don't have auto focus but thats only my opinion without doing a lot of research into it.

A decent cheap point and shoot is better though. Faster, and better lenses.
