Ok, Here's my first D3 image I'm posting. It's a crop and its mono. I've had a tough 2 days with Capture NX, broadband and my PC almost dying and trying to sort that out. I've edited this on my Macbook so I have no idea how the image looks on a properly calibrated screen as I've never edited on the Mac before.
My opinion of the D3 so far is that it is a kick a$$ camera but the white balances are terrible on it! It's dynamic range is really good and it exposures are really spot on almost all the time. Still getting to grips with it and Capture NX for processing RAW's which is different to use.
Any feedback on how the image looks on your screens is appreciated.

    Thanks.

I dont no much on picture quility but it would look better if all the lanes were on and had pins at the end.

True Sean, it would look better, but nigh impossible on a Saturday evening at 9:30pm unfortunately. Hard enough getting a clean shot without anybody in it.

Looking good, what ISO is that at?

Stillorgan Leisureplex in Dublin, open 24/7. The reason I cropped was due to horrible advertising banners above the lanes.

Shot it at 800 ISO. It's good being able to crank it up and not have to worry so much about noise. I'd estimate the noise at 6400 is probably equivelant to the noise you'd get on a D200 at about ISO 1600 & ISO25,600 is probably about the same if not a little worse than the D200 at ISO3200.

As a test last night, I shot these wooden hands on my mantlepiece with a small lamp in each corner of the room (so the room wasn't bright at all) at ISO6400 and used a Nikon 70-300 VR lens at 5.6 and 1/13th second handheld. You can see a 100 crop which is the knuckle of the index finger on the smaller hand. They were untouched in PS, only thing done to them was a change of white balance in CNX (and I also forgot to change their colour space to sRGB for the web so the colours look really bad).

    That's like ISO 200 on my mother's Canon A55!!!
And talking about the bowling lanes - it looks smooth with nice tones. I'd like to see some reflections to see the dynamical range. Like chrome bumper of some car, or water tap. Please.
